Zheng Xue, "Seeds" (2026, acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20 in. $1499). @zheng_art This circular abstract painting links the genesis of the universe and cellular growth through nested vortex structures. The innermost layer evokes the primordial singularity of the Big Bang as well as the nucleus of a single embryonic cell. Layers of blue and green ripple outward — the expansion of cosmic spacetime mirroring the outward proliferation of dividing cells. Star formation and cellular growth stem from the same origin: vast galaxies are colossal lifeforms, while tiny cells each contain a miniature cosmos. gallery 913 is pleased to present suspensions, a group salon curated by hobart pao, featuring works by suy eos, zack federbush, lisa ludwig, hobart pao, sophia reyes, roycer, and xue zheng. running from 1 oct to 1 dec 2026, suspensions brings together seven artists, creating a suspension space of artists and their work. despite appearances, and though whether truly empty space actually exists, reality is 99\% "empty" space, whence life as we know is arguably suspended in this "aether". from the topological perspective, suspensions are a way to embed entities in higher dimensional spaces. for example, suspensions allow us to create paths between points. the suspension space of a circle suspends the circle between two cones. suspensions also carry the notion of being in between--in transition, in a space of transition, sometimes stopped or stuck. a possible reading is that in order to get somewhere in life, we must experience transitional states, which may involve discomfort or uncertainty. the works in this salon all fit the suspensions theme by containing topological suspensions, such as a path between two points, or loops made of two points and two distinct paths between the same points. each work creates the context for the other works, each providing a different perspective on suspension; pao's curation showcases the diversity of ways to express the same idea, and does not privilege any particular interpretation. please join us for the private opening reception on thursday, 1 oct, at 18:30. rsvp here: https://partiful.com/e/hY3p0WD9YS61cWR1151e #artgallery #gallery913 #suspensions #contemporaryart #bayridge #artreception by @gallery_913
