Figure majeure de la photographie couleur, Harry Gruyaert compose depuis plus de cinquante ans une œuvre où lumière, couleur et cadrage transforment les scènes ordinaires en images d’une grande intensité. Cette exposition réunit des œuvres réalisées entre 1986 et le début des années 2000, période charnière marquée par son passage au numérique.⁣

@katriendeblauwer presents Tight Into a Ball, now on view at @librairie7l in Paris.

Turning to the photography magazines in Karl Lagerfeld’s library as both source and mirror, she focuses on images from the late 1920s and 1930s — frozen moments of people mid-transformation. Working through a Woolfian lens, she borrows these figures to tell a story that is, as always, personal.

In the group show "Rooms / Stages," 12 photographers are presented with one body of work each. They consciously incorporate the space into their photography and the works range from manipulated/altered empty spaces to pictorial rooms and theatrical settings. Throughout the exhibition period we will highlight each artist with a dedicated Spotlight post. Next up is Frederike von Rauch!

The Berlin-based artist has developed a completely autonomous photographic language with which she precisely renders surfaces, material textures, and other image details in her interiors. @friederike.vonrauch uses only available light for her photography; overlapping shadows sometimes produce ethereal, almost magical plays of light. Von Rauch also transforms empty spaces she captures in museums, churches, palaces, concert halls, or crematoria into theatrical settings. The sacred in her photography is often secularized; other non-religious cultural sites are similarly transformed into spiritual places. The image titles are short and remain cryptic, much like her photographs themselves, which seem to exist outside time and place. Nevertheless, we can identify locations such as Dresden, Brussels, Antwerp, Reykjavik, Venice, or Berlin. Her work seems committed to finding the abstract in a concrete place and to bringing into focus what is mostly overlooked. With von Rauch as "our guide," we venture into spaces we have never entered, or never seen in this way. It is as if she pulls aside a curtain for us.

Every work in this exhibition contains pink. Yet none of them contains pink.

Pink has no wavelength. It exists nowhere in the visible spectrum. Unlike red, green, or violet, there is no single frequency of light that we perceive as pink. Instead, pink is a colour constructed by the brain.

The rejects.

Talking about the negatives…they might be missing the marks and small numbers in my grandfather’s writing BUT some come with his personal touch.

In order to make clear which negatives shouldn’t be printed, he just cut a triangle in them, sometimes resulting in masterpieces. by @galleryfiftyone
