🌟Art Fair Tomorrow🌟

With our second art fair happening tomorrow, I'm feeling extremely proud of what we've achieved so far. The fair was created to help raise funds for Gallery Oldham while celebrating the amazing artistic talent we have in and around Oldham, and it's lovely to see it all coming together for a second year.

Last year's fair helped raise funds towards the sundial that's now installed at Gallery Oldham, which is a brilliant reminder of the difference these events can make.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their time, support and hard work in helping to promote and bring this year's fair to life.

So if you're in the area, come along and meet some fantastic local artists, discover unique handmade creations and support a great local cause.

💚The Countdown Is On💚

The banner is up which means the countdown is officially on! We've distributed flyers across Oldham and the surrounding areas, made an appearance on Oldham Community Radio, been featured in the local press several times, and now with the banner in place, it’s all starting to feel real.

We’re almost ready to welcome you GO! Artists – Oldham Art Fair. If you can help us make the day the best it can be by sharing, tagging a friend, or spreading the word, it would mean so much to all of us involved.

Expect original artwork from talented local artists, great prizes, and a welcoming atmosphere. All proceeds support Gallery Oldham and its creative community.

Artist Kath Lowe talks about her portrait which is currently on show in the Oldham Open exhibition. 'I first met Virginia Chinwe Mbechi at our local church St Herbert’s in Chadderton, and was immediately drawn to her wonderful presence and incredible sense of style.⁠
⁠
Originally from Nigeria, Virginia moved to Paris before coming to Oldham to work as a care worker at the Royal Oldham Hospital. She is also a talented dressmaker creating her own beautiful, colourful outfits and elaborate headdresses, which make her such an inspiring subject to paint.⁠
⁠
For this portrait, I wanted to give Virginia a sense of grandeur. I placed her against a gold drape, inspired by the grand portraiture of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, when luxurious fabrics were often used to convey dignity, status and importance. There is also a tradition of ‘The Cloth of Honour’ in religious and royal portraiture. Virginia’s faith is very important to her and looking back, I feel that the religious quality of the gold setting may have emerged quite subconsciously. It seemed to reflect something of dignity, strength and presence that Virginia herself brings to the portrait.⁠
⁠
Virginia has now become a recurring subject in my work. I’m currently painting her in another of her amazing self made outfits. It has been a real pleasure getting to know Virginia and exploring her story through portraiture. I’m delighted that this portrait is now part of Gallery Oldham’s Open exhibition.'⁠

'Waiting for Customers ' a painting by Ramon Adeyemi is currently on display at Gallery Oldham in the Oldham Open 2026.⁠

The artist said 'The hustle and bustle of the street sellers as they trade with customers is an everyday experience where I came from. I decided to paint this scene because it projects the daily struggle and persistence of common man to make ends meet. As an artist I get my inspiration mostly from the events around me and I love depicting those beautiful fleeting moments in my painting.'⁠

So happy to announce that Blooming artists is going to be at Gallery Oldham!! Join me for monthly Saturday art sessions starting from November, downstairs at The Gallery Oldham

Last night we went along to Indian Association Oldham to see their Town of Culture project in action ✨

Over the past 10 days, children & adults of all ages have come together for a packed programme of activities, from arts and crafts and clay making to helping create a giant Ganesh artwork 🎨

The finished piece will stay on display at the centre until March, creating a lasting reminder of everything the community has made together.

@indian_association_oldham has been bringing people together in the borough since 1968, celebrating Indian culture and traditions and creating a welcoming space for the whole community 🩵

And the celebrations don’t stop here, with more activities planned around Diwali 🪔
