Casey Cook received a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design and an
MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. Since 1996, She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She has had solo exhibitions at Dan Bernier Gallery, Lehmann Maupin, I-20, Branch Gallery, LUMP Gallery, and Shrine NYC. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at The Nasher Museum of Art,
Contemporary Art Museum in Raleigh, and numerous other galleries
and institutions.

She has received fellowships from the Internationale Cite Des Artes in
Paris and the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts in New York City. Cook’s work has been written about in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The New Yorker, Art News, Artforum, The News &
Observer, and INDY Week.

While predominantly a painter, Cook also works in a multitude of other genres including sculpture, video, film and music. She was a founding member of the art rock band Americans in France and currently fronts the collaborative project Sissy Remains. She lives and works in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception of Sometimeish last Friday night! Wow! What a wonderful way to kick off our fall season at the gallery.

We are so excited to be showing Casey Cook's new work, and it was so wonderful to see the gallery full of people celebrating her beautiful work.

Oneoneone is pleased to announce the opening of Sometimeish, an exhibition of new paintings by Casey Cook. She has been exhibiting with LIGHT since 2012, and this is her second solo exhibition with the gallery.

In 2025, Casey Cook received a photograph of a traditional Caribbean sailboat, which was damaged, propped up by tree limbs, ribs exposed, and surrounded by debris from a recent hurricane. The vessel depicted, known as Laser, was originally built by hand in 1986 by some of the last traditional shipwrights of Carriacou, the largest island in the Grenadines.The photograph of Laser became the inspiration for a new body of paintings. Deeply moved by the image of this vulnerable boat, the artist visited Carriacou to meet Laser. While on the island, she photographed, sketched, painted, and learned more about the fading art of handbuilt sloops there.

Sometimeish, a term used on the island, references a state of being that is fluid, shifting, moody, and ephemeral. This feeling of impermanence echoes throughout the works. The ground and sky shift in color and energy. A solitary figure and various objects arrange and rearrange themselves around the protective shelter of the boat. Through these visual shifts, the form of the boat, a potent symbol of resilience and repair, returns again and again. Its ghostly presence appears both soft and solid, at times mended with patches of cast-like plaster. The works in Sometimeish are quiet meditations on a singular subject with great personal and universal significance.

Oneoneone is located on the ground floor of the Greenbridge Building in Chapel Hill, NC. The entrance is on N. Merritt Mill Road between W Franklin Street and W Rosemary Street.
