🎬 PREPARING FOR MY NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY:
10 YEARS PRODUCING AN INDIE FESTIVAL IN NEWARK
For the last 10 years (+), I’ve been asking myself the same thing:
“Should it be this hard to produce a monthly festival?”

I’ve worked with hundreds of artists, hosted thousands of participants, too much screen time, solo setups/breakdowns, plenty tears, banal reports, and your favorite Creative Uncle decided to reflect on it. ✍🏽

“10 Years Producing: an Indie Festival in Newark” is coming to Substack — a little retrospective, a little behind-the-scenes, and a look at what comes next for Newark First Fridays.

📰 Subscribe to the Substack to read it when it drops NEXT WEEK

BUT FIRST, TWO DATES:

🛍️ NEWARK FIRST FLEA MARKET at @NJPAC Chambers Plaza — Sept. 12

🎧 NEWARK FIRST FRIDAYS: PARLOR THINGS at @ExpressNewark — Oct. 2

🕰️ EACH EVENT 6PM-9:30PM **

🚨 October will likely be the last Newark First Fridays as we know it as we build better systems and new programming for what comes next.

Welcome to Newark First Fridays. Thank you! 👐🏾

When you start a thing you never know where it will take you, the times you’ll miss, the things you’ll learn…

Family, today is a special one — the final Newark First Fridays as we’ve known it + a celebration of 10 festival seasons.

Councilwoman Bey + Newark Municipal Council will be presenting Newark First Fridays and me with a proclamation during the evening. 🥹

I’d really love for my people to be there to celebrate this moment with me.
