I haven’t posted on this page for a long time. Because of the new algorithms of Instagram I barely got any engagement anymore. A lot has changed since my last post. I bought the Nintendo Switch 2 and I was lucky enough to pick up Donkey Kong Bananza when it released on the seventeenth of July. What a freaking masterpiece of a game! Maybe I should have expected as much since it was developed by the same team that gave us Super Mario Odyssey. Donkey Kong Bananza deserves the Game of the Year nomination. I really believe this should have been the launch game of the Nintendo Switch 2 as it blows Mario Kart World completely out of the water. Bananza is frantic, chaotic, colourful, vibrant, strangely nostalgic and illegally addictive. I’ve collected more than 300 Banandium Gems and I’m not even close to finishing it. Nintendo has done it again. They have delivered a modern classic that redefines what a 3D platformer can be. What is your take on Donkey Kong Bananza? Did it make you go bananas? Breath of the Wild was the first game I ever played on the Nintendo Switch and Tears of the Kingdom will probably be the last major game I will play on the Big N’s aging hardware. Two of the best games of all time. It’s quite obvious that The Big N is getting ready to launch the successor to the Switch this year. The line-up of announced games for 2024 isn’t anything to write home about. We shouldn’t be expecting any first party masterpieces anytime soon. Thank God for the steady and loyal third party support that the Switch has built up over the years. The first game I bought in 2024 is Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, an action-adventure game, developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio behind masterpieces like Rayman Origins/Legends and Beyond Good & Evil. They set the bar high with their previous achievements, but the new Prince of Persia game fits right in. The visuals are gorgeous, the movement is extremely smooth, the world is expansive and the combat is challenging and addictive. An all-round amazing Metroidvania that caught me completely by surprise. What a way to start off the new year! taken in Diest by @gamin_dad

I hate to admit it, but I’m one of those chumps who buys a new FIFA game each year. I’m a huge football enthusiast and EA knows my weakness. I was sick and tired, though, of all the legacy editions on the Switch. EA has been spitting out the same damn game every year, just updating the rosters and kits. In 2023 they lost the FIFA branding and that finally made them step up their game. EA FC 24 runs on the Frostbite engine and includes all the modes you get on other platforms. The reviews are actually fairly good, but I’m still very conflicted about this version of the game. It is a big improvement in comparison to FIFA 23, but the compromises made are very noticeable. What is your opinion on EA’s latest football sim? Do you like it? Or did they drop the ball on this one? Today I finished Disney Illusion Island, the Switch exclusive platformer from developer Dlala Studios. It started out as a very easy and relaxing experience, but the later stages of the game really made me break a sweat. 😅 The game allows you to make it as hard or as easy as you want it to be though, making it the perfect game to play with a younger, less experienced gamer. I really loved it and I hope that a lot of people are going to give it a shot. My brother and I spent the last game day of the summer playing Remnant: From the Ashes, an action role-playing game developed by Gunfire Games. For some inexplicable reason this gem has completely flown under my radar. It was my brother who brought it to my attention. The game has some clear Souls-like influences; it borrows a couple of key mechanics and the bosses can be downright brutal. The game looks amazing (for a Switch port) and runs buttery smooth on the Big N’s aging console. It is also a prime example of how to do coop right. We had a blast today going on a killing spree in a post-apocalyptic Earth. By using the power of friendship we even succeed in slaying a bloodthirsty, axe wielding maniac and a flame blazing dragon from hell. I’m currently on holiday in France. I’m staying at a camping in Versailles, at a stones throw from Paris. We’re sleeping in a tent in the middle of the woods, without wifi and most of the modern comfort. That doesn’t stop me from enjoying one of my favorite hobbies though. Yesterday I downloaded Disney Illusion Island, a new platformer developed exclusively for the Nintendo Switch by Dlala Studios. At first I thought it was quite easy and lacked any significant depth, but after a couple of hours the game started opening up. I unlocked a couple of abilities and I found out it actually is a metroidvania. I love the art style and the smooth gameplay. It really feels like watching a classic Sunday morning cartoon, Mickey and friends haven’t looked that good in a long time.
