A ring that represents history. 💍🏆 The first team National Championship in Gannon Athletics history. A season and a group that will forever have its place in history, and now, a ring that tells the story. The vision behind the ring came from two of our seniors, now graduates, Layne Sarver and Victor Desmond. They helped bring the details to life and made sure this ring represented so much of what made this group and season special. Swipe through. There’s a story behind every detail. ➡️ “IT’S A GREAT DAY…” ⚔️ A phrase heard over and over throughout the year from our coaching staff. No matter the day, the challenge, or what was in front of this group, the reminder stayed the same… Swipe ➡️ “…TO BE A KNIGHT.” ⚔️ More than a saying. It became part of who this group was. And there’s a lot more built into these two sides of the ring. The swords represent 48 - the school-record number of turnovers forced in a single game against Kutztown. The National Championship logo represents a stage that made this title even more special. The Division II National Championship was played in Indianapolis during Division I Final Four weekend, putting this group on one of the biggest stages in college basketball. And right underneath it: 34-3. The final record of a National Championship season. 🏆 It’s a GREAT day to be a KNIGHT. ⚔️ A couple final details you have to look underneath the ring to find. 👀💍 84-61. The final score against Lander that brought the National Championship home to Erie. “THEY DON’T DO WHAT WE DO.” A message heard throughout the season from our coaching staff. And right underneath it, two words that represent the identity and culture built within this program: GU PRESSURE. More than how this team plays. It’s who we are. A national championship season, told in the details of a ring. 💍🏆 President Iwanenko joined head men’s basketball coach Easton Bazzoli to present the rings to our national champion student-athletes. Victor “Vic” Desmond and Layne Sarver, the seniors on last season’s championship team, helped design them. The details capture the Golden Knights’ run: “GU Pressure,” the relentless approach that fueled their season; 48 swords representing their record-setting 48 forced turnovers against Kutztown; and, in gold, a phrase that became part of the team’s daily life: “It’s a great day to be a Knight.” ⚔️ The Golden Knights begin their title defense Nov. 7 against Central Missouri. 🏀 #gannon #gannonu #gannonuniversity #nationalchampions by @gannon_mbb
