Repost • @softcore_trauma Some tender thoughts from my activist heart to yours. Reminder that there is always space for disagreement, but let’s remember each other’s shared humanity as we do so ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Some of what I shared in the newsletter:

It’s not everyone’s role in the revolution to meet people where they’re at. But I do feel like that is one part of the work that I’m called to do.

There are so many reasons why one might be speaking up now, and I want them to continue to use their voice, even if it begins by sharing an AI generated story slide.

Of course, I want them to also do more, like share calls to action, attend a protest, write to their reps, have hard convos with family and loved ones. It can be all too easy to say that these actions aren’t asking a lot when you’ve been in the activism world for more than a minute.

And yet, as someone who struggles to executive function when it comes to doing a new scary thing, I want to hold space for how immobilizing it can be to step out of your comfort zone for the first time.

Does everyone else in the movement need to hold this space? No. But some of us, especially white folks, really need to.

Read the rest via the 🔗 in my byeohh

FYI: I’m gonna be launching an online discord community space in June because I wanna help y’all build community and connect with other trauma bbs around the world.

There will be a whole bunch of different channels including a space to connect with other activists and dream and scheme and organize together.

If you want to make sure that you don’t miss the announcement, just drop 🙋🙋🙋 in the comments and I’ll DM you with the info when it’s live.

Posted @withrepost • @mia.mingus Love this from @sheabutterfemme 💕
.
Esp love: “Communicate when you can't, and commuinicate early. Do not leave your comrades hanging” and the last one, “people need YOU to do the scary thing, the thing that is out of your comfort zone.”
.
.
This is wisdom about organizing, and also wisdom about interdependence. And any organizing worth its salt is about interdependence bc organizing is grounded in our relationships.
.
One of the (many) reasons i think transformative justice and disability justice are so challenging for our communities is bc they both require that we build, embrace, desire, and *sustain* interdependence. They both require that we choose interdependence again and again and again, even when it’s hard—especially when it’s hard. True interdependence requires a deep commitment to ourselves and each other that many of us run from, even as we crave it.

[series of 8 tweets from @sheabutterfemme that read: I get a good amount of messages from people asking me how to get into organizing and besides the simple answer of finding a local group and going to meetings here are the things i've learned/have said before. Also things I wish I had done earlier: 1. Stick to your word, it means everything. Do the things you say you will, do it well. Communicate when you can't, and commuinicate early. Do not leave your comrades hanging. 2. Give credit where it's due, do not take credit for things you did not do. 3. Be authentic, show up in an honest and real way, be honest when it's difficult, bring your full self. 4. Be a diligent student, make sure you're reading/learning as much as you're talking. Don't take up space when you're unsure. 5. Do the work. Do the unglamorous work, the work that seems too small the work that isn't always sexy, and do it well. Gain trust from your comrades by being on top of your work, and not always jumping at the most visible things. 6. Take breaks if you need to, but be proactive about those breaks, communicate about those breaks. 7. Organizing is not a dating show. Do with that info what you will. 8. Be intentional with your relationships, treat people like you will see them again, you will. (co by @gapimny

Want to get politically active? Here are 7 tips on plugging into local organizing and campaigns already underway (GAPIMNY or elsewhere): 1) Reach out. “I’m interested in __.”
2) When in doubt, just ask. “How can I help/support __.”
3) There are many ways to contribute (big+small). You can use your existing skills (offer them up) or push yourself to develop new ones (pay attention to calls for volunteers, many groups will invest in training you if they know you are committed). 4) Donations are always welcome.
5) It’s okay to make mistakes-be humble. Keep trying and learning, and keep showing up.
6) Organizing with your community can be incredibly powerful and empowering.
7) Remember: liberation is a collective process ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Huges thanks to @gapimny for supporting our drag show! New goal: $1,450!!

Sept 16 6-10 PM we are raising funds to support our Blasian Book Fair in Cleveland, OH on Sept 20. Our goals there are to 1.) distribute free Black, Asian and Blasian books, mostly LGBT and banned books in response to the HB 7661 and CHARLIE Act bills that would ban LGBT literature nationwide from schools and libraries and 2.) register people to vote as both Ohio Senate seats are up for election.

RSVP in the bio and/or donate at www.blasianmarch.org!

This drag show was made possible through our partners @naaraknyc , our host @thecrownnyc , @gapimny, @oca_ny and @pifilmfestnyc
