It is with some trepidation yet pride that my new solo dark folk acoustic album ‘Sleeping Dogs’ is out for preorder on Bandcamp now! (Link in bio)

I have made a fair few albums now, definitely more than two, and yet this second solo album was the hardest thing I’ve made. I gave up several times but it pushed on. I tried to make it different, it wouldn’t go. I wrote 70 songs, it wanted 8.

It starts with a dream about my dog drowning and in the freeze survival response an internal journey takes place. It ends with the resounding vibration of a gong struck hard. And that’s all you need to know.

It’s on digital and vinyl and will be released on February 6th 2026. Please do preorder if you can, it really helps. And if you do, the song Things I Didn’t Know Were There will be yours.

Immense gratitude to the people that have helped me make this thing. What a splendid Autumn day it is today. So, I'm going to announce this incredible show to soundtrack/celebrate the darkening days ahead.
It seems that a Sunday Matinee show is all the rage at the moment, join us for an afternoon of Slowcore, Folk, Drone & Experimental music in the basement of the Exchange.
Delighted to have Annie Gardiner heading up the show in her solo guise. And, a very new project from myself 'Dea Sul' will be supporting. Also, friends 'Zero Gravity Tea Party' (Chazza Milosovic) bolstering the bill.
This is going to be a very special afternoon of a slow-deep-listening nature.
You'll be home in time for a good roast or a steaming hot cocoa 🙂

Excellent Birds is the ambient, slowcore and vaporous electronic project of Bristol artist Annie Gardiner. Moving between shimmering electronic pop and meditative soundscapes, the project draws on DX7 textures, horizon-gazing and Hiroshi Yoshimura’s interior music philosophy.

Following two adventurous electronic albums - including 2025’s Digital Leaves, which gained recognition across the US ambient scene and acclaim from The Quietus - Excellent Birds now makes its way to the stage.

Last year I released my first ambient album ‘Digital Leaves’ under my project Excellent Birds. Ambient and Slow Core music make up at least 90% of my music listening, I am obsessed.

I was excited to find out that ‘Digital Leaves’ was featured on one of my favourite ambient podcast/substacks flowstate.fm as a Flow State Best of 2025 album! An incredible honour next to stunning music by the likes of Oneohtrix Point Never, Laurie Torres, Almost an Island…

I am excited to play on the Cube stage covered in cushions and soft things for you all to lie on and vibe in! After testing ‘Digital Leaves’ out live opening the main stage at Unearthed Festival back in June, I know that it works! Big deep bass drones, air-y reverbs, and what The Quietus called ‘shoegaze-beyond-shoegaze’ vocals.

On Friday, at the first ever Dissolve night, I am gonna play never-heard-before pieces that I have been working on for my second Ambient album. Call this a live experiment, expect more and expanded floating and horizon gazing! The last of the summer sunsets!

Final announcement for my album launch THIS SAT!! An honour to have another BEEF (Bristol Experimental & Expanded Film) artist on board, Melanie Clifford! Melanie will be mixing a special live moving visual using film especially for Foot Foot’s set!

Melanie Clifford works in translation between film, sound, drawing, broadcast, material and site. She is currently based in Bristol, where she is an active member of artists’ collective BEEF (Bristol Experimental & Expanded Film). Her work has been exhibited, performed, screened and broadcast internationally.

She loves projecting live for interesting musicians in interesting places. She mixes her own 16mm film and video sketches and occasionally degraded tape glitch collected from her part-time job at Greatbear A&V D.

We also got a feature in Bristol 247 this week! Thank you Ursula for the lovely interview, link in story!

And, Editors Pick on Headfirst who wrote a cool thing;

Soooooooo,,,, back when I shared the fine fine video for ‘Hero’s Hem’ by Laura Phillips, I forgot to press the ‘PUBLIC’ button!!!! (No joke!!) Call it the peri-meno brain fog or just too much crap to remember and not enough coffee!

Laura Phillips is a very inspiring artist who works with 16mm photochemical film, sound and performance AND who will be collaborating live during my set at the ‘Sleeping Dogs’ album launch show at The Cube 29th August.

Known for her work with BEEF [Bristol Experimental and Expanded Film], feminist improvisation sound and vision group Viridian and a recipient of the British School at Rome Creative Wales Fellowship 2024.

We have collaborated on two videos; one for the first every single ‘Along the Forest Bed’ (taken from ‘Bloodletting’ in 2021) and ‘Hero’s Hem’ (2025). A mix of both is what you see in this reel :)

Laura is a legend. It is a great privilege to have her at this show. She also said one of the coolest things I’ve read recently…

“But.... maybe... just to clarify, I do not make art stuff to sell but make art stuff to think about the world and how we come to know the world.

Art has changed my way of seeing and being in the world.

My studio is currently the longest stable relationship I’ve had with either a landlord or partner.

Its a space I would like to spend more time in..... but have to compromise with other hierarchies of needs.”
