(ES) “Ante las grandes convulsiones de la naturaleza, el ser humano es impotente”. Esta cita de *La isla misteriosa* de Julio Verne resume las esculturas - fotolibro de la serie *Interstates of Becoming* las cuales representan —mediante la fractura, la superposición de capas y la materialidad— la relación entre los seres humanos y los entornos que comparten. En esta nueva exposición se exhiben cuatro de las siete esculturas - fotolibro. Cada una emplea elementos propios del proceso de construcción para dotar de tridimensionalidad a la narrativa representada, desafiando así las interpretaciones tradicionales sobre cómo vemos, leemos e interactuamos con un fotolibro. También se incluyen tres maquetas de libros que ponen de relieve el proceso evolutivo de creación de las formas finales. This quote, from Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island, encapsulates the ‘Interstates of Becoming’ photobook sculptures which depict, via fracturing, layering and materiality, the relationship between human beings and their shared environments. In this new exhibition, four of the seven photobook sculptures are displayed. Each uses individual elements of the process of construction to bring three-dimensionality to the depicted narrative, challenging traditional interpretations of how we see, read and interact with a photobook. (ES) ¡Grandes noticias! Mi próxima exposición individual se inaugura en Villa Elisa, Benicàssim, el viernes 18 de septiembre de 2026 a las 19:00. Por primera vez, exhibiré juntas múltiples ediciones del proyecto Interstates of Becoming. Esta muestra única presenta cuatro esculturas-fotolibro, destacando el valor intrínseco de la maqueta y cómo la experimentación material ha hecho evolucionar la obra. Nos despedimos hasta septiembre con lo más nuevo de Gareth Phillips, un fotógrafo que explora las definiciones contemporáneas del fotolibro, concibiéndolo como objeto, escultura e instalación, y que nunca deja de sorprendernos. "Interstates of Becoming" explora la relación cambiante entre los seres humanos y los entornos que habitan a través de una serie de siete fotolibros-escultura. Cada edición convierte el libro en una estructura en transformación. Materiales como el hormigón, el acero o los imanes sostienen páginas fragmentadas que se construyen y deconstruyen durante la experiencia de lectura, estableciendo un diálogo entre estabilidad y fragilidad, construcción y destrucción. Interstates of Becoming, Edition 6
 A photobook exploring the relationship between human beings and their shared environments, highlighting the effects humans and mountains have on each other as they embark on interdependent life-spans. Focused on Himalayan mountains of North West India, and following the Hindustan-Tibet Road built by the British in 1856, this photobook depicts the current constructed and deconstructed elements of this continuing interaction, highlighting the futility of environmental control and the impact of hydrological development in a high-risk seismic zone. Edition six of the series, seen here, uses forms and shapes inspired by the contours of constructed concrete ramparts that are built to reinforce the riverbanks and valley walls of hydrological and military developments. The photobook contains ten separated chapters that are constructed and deconstructed as the viewer interacts with the book. DM/email for purchase enquiries. Very happy to share that my new photobook sculpture ‘Interstates of Becoming, Edition V’, will be available to view from Friday June 19th at Uribitarte40 Gallery, Bilbao, 6pm - 9pm. Created at @bilbaoartefund the artwork will be exhibited until September as part of the group show displaying the final works of the ten artists-in-residence. Edition five, seen here, uses 553 steel plates, 2500 magnets & 40 concrete blocks to create 9 chapters that hold, in a fragile balance, the fractured pages of the photobook. The artwork explores the relationship between human beings and their shared environments, highlighting the effects humans and mountains have on each other as they embark on interdependent life-spans. Focused on Himalayan mountains of North West India, and following the Hindustan-Tibet Road, this photobook sculpture depicts the current constructed and deconstructed elements of this continuing interaction, highlighting the futility of environmental control, the exploitation of inhabitants and workers and the impact of hydrological development in a high-risk seismic zone.
