Music teachers, thank you for all you do.

Seriously.

But honestly, you need to stop teaching

You need to stop instructing

You need to start inquiring

Start coaching

That is where the music students can start TRANSFORMING

That is where they can start approaching their instrument with curiosity and wonder rather than critique and worry.

Alison Garner from S3E25 tells us more in this video!

Keep on keepin’ on!

Registration is now open for Musical Minds: Teacher Training! This is a somatic mindfulness-based approach to music learning for children 2-7 that places a child’s—and teacher’s— well-being at the heart of learning an instrument. Teachers interested in improving their own well-being, creating a program for young children that feeds directly into their studio, and/or is curious how to bring the instrument to the child are invited to register! Dear artists, dancers, musicians, teachers, students and parents:

I invite and welcome you to a conversation.

As a transformational coach, I offer clarity and resolution in many psycho-emotional concerns common to the profession, such as ease and confidence in performance, life balance, relational harmony, memory and effective practice, and appropriate boundary setting to facilitate the freedom and space to attain a life goal, transform the expression of your work, and fulfill your potential both as an artist and as a human being. My clients range in age from 16 to 74, are professionals, amateurs and students, and share the vision and motivation to create a better future for themselves. If this sounds intriguing to you, message me. We can set up a free Zoom call in which to explore what’s possible for you. There is no obligation to commit to anything unless it is your desire to do so. I am here to offer the ways you can create the desire, vision and path for yourself to be who you are becoming. by @garnerstudio2

“Could you be quiet for a moment?”
Sometimes, to hear our own heart requires silence so we can listen. A stillness inside and out. The quiet itself is a container that holds one’s being. Interrupting that breaks the connection with the self necessary for our “becoming.”
I need to be reminded of this. As a coach and as a teacher, my inclination is to fill the spaces to satisfy my own comfort. I rush in to fix, sooth or offer when often what’s called for is the space and time of being in the moment. Having that in the presence of another is precious and holy. It’s a rare thing in our world. We believe we must always be going somewhere or doing something. The real growth happens in the silences.
Practice silence. Bring your stillness to what you do. What happens if you just allow the quiet in? What if you didn’t always speak? What does it mean to deeply listen to yourself or to another?
If we invite more silence into our lives, we grow much more attuned and attentive to ourselves in a way that empowers our sense of us in the world. The language associated with the stories we tell ourselves—“I’m anxious,” “I always do the wrong thing,” “I had this terrible trauma happen to me”—becomes our present moment. It defines our reality not just of “then” but of “now.” By repeating the habit of telling ourselves the same story, we not only limit our potential but we fill the silence that could move us out of it. Out of the quiet a new story can emerge…this one, a story you create. “I have had anxious moments, but they do not define me.” Break the cycle. Decide to do it. Offer into your silences new language that supports who you are becoming.
Choose your reality through the words you use.
Words grow out of the silence you nourish within yourself. by @garnerstudio2
