Around 7 years ago today, I went on a fall weekend retreat with Young Life. That weekend I really learned and understood what it meant to fully follow Jesus with my whole life. I learned that a relationship with Jesus isn’t a bunch of rules that I am to blindly follow, but instead I get to joyfully obey God everyday because he first loved me. I am grateful to have such a forgiving God that chose to love me even when I turn away.
I am also super grateful for all my spiritual leaders that I’ve had in those years since then as well as some amazing friends that I have made in the process. I’ve had more fun than I could have imagined. I’ve learned some much about the world and myself as well. Following Jesus is not always easy or convenient, but there is a different kind of perspective and joy that you have once you have fully experienced His love.
With His love I am not shaken by an injury, by not playing, by feeling isolated, by fear. Instead I am confident that regardless of the circumstances, God is working out an amazing plan for my life, more awesome than I could do for myself. And I hope that you are able to experience that same joy and peace that comes from following Jesus.
