2025 was a year I’ll never forget! Stagecoach, the legend Pat McAfee, 125th US Open, Sleepy Hollow, PNW trips, Iris at Red Rocks (simply unmatched) the Red River Rivalry, Chevz first Steelers game, Puerto Rico and everywhere in between. Happy Mother’s Day to this beautiful woman and soul! Chevy is truly so blessed that you are his momma. An open letter to Chevy

Hi, buddy! The day has finally come. A day I’ve looked forward to for as long as I can remember. A day I really wasn’t sure was ever going to happen. A day I get to call you my son. It’s a rainy 60 degree day here in Pittsburgh. Lord only knows this rain means if you’re anything like your mom and I, then you’ll be chasing the sun for the rest of your life. For as long as I can remember the #1 goal in my life was to become a dad. However, I don’t just want to be a dad. I want to be a great dad. A dad that is trustworthy. A dad that is reliable. A dad that is respectable. A dad that is honorable. A dad that is fun and adventurous. A dad that is proud and strong. More than anything though, I want to be a dad that is full of love. A dad that you can come to day or night, no matter what is going on in your life and know that I’m a safe space. When you accomplish your biggest and most wild dreams. When you fall short of those dreams. When you’re having a good day. When you’re having a bad day. When you have no idea what your next step is going to be. Or when you simply just need to brag about where you’re headed in life. While I know all of those things take time, I hope you know that I will be there with you and for you every step of the way to help guide you and teach you as best I can. I have always admired boys that are best friends with their dads. I was fortunate to witness it growing up with your uncle Dev, my best friend, and his dad. And even though your great grandpa was not technically my dad, I still consider myself very lucky that I got to be best friends with the greatest man I will ever know. A man that I can only dream of becoming and I know he would have loved to have been here. He loved kids more than anything, but I promise to make sure that you see him through me every single day. I want you to know that while I will always be your dad, I hope you will always consider me a friend. You will always be my best bud! More in the comments. To the greatest man I will ever know:

It’s been a couple of months now, Gramps, but today is your special day and so I hope you are having the best heavenly birthday you could possibly imagine. I’m sure you’re up there whistling away as you work in your flower garden. Or enjoying a cold Bud Light on your porch swing. Better yet, enjoying some peace and quiet on the lake catching endless amounts of fish. I don’t think there are any game wardens up there (Lord knows if there are, you’re calling ‘em cocksuckers and moving on with your day), so you no longer have to worry about not having a license or getting caught dumping cream corn off the side of the boat.

Gramps, I will never truly be able to put into words how much you meant to me and will forever mean to me. You were the most loving, loyal, patient, selfless man in the world! It didn’t matter if you knew someone for 10 minutes or 10 years - if they needed the shirt off your back- you’d give it to them without hesitation and never ask for anything in return. Although you were taken advantage of on several occasions, you never let that stop you from giving. You were the living definition of someone who put others needs before their own. You never stopped trying to provide for our family. Until the day you passed, you never stopped working. You were always trying to earn a dollar, and while it pissed us off from time to time because we simply wanted you to finally enjoy life, it’s one of the things I admire most about you. You always wanted to make sure we had enough, and boy did we.

I never got the chance to thank you for always being there, Gramps. Growing up, my sister, my cousins and I were all over the map playing sport after sport, and if there was one thing I never had to worry about, it was you showing up. It didn’t matter where we were playing, or how many of us were playing on the same day, you always made sure you were there. There was no excuse in your book.
