It was a 3rd of June, another chaotic Knoxville day. 🤯A year ago today, 06/03/2024, I was admitted into a hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee with aches and pains all over my body. I had suffered 4 great losses in a row since late 2023. I lost my friends Jon Hill, Wade Hampton, Wesley Highland and my mother, Helen. To say I grief I suffered was overwhelming would be the understatement of my lifetime. Then, in the shortest terms, my health left me. After 8 days in the hospital, I lived. I was saved and helped by wonderful medical professionals and friends who surrounded me with healing and protection.I am here because of all your cards, letters, DM’s, enchiladas, flowers, books, hugs, concern and love.I am here because of all of you. Friday I spent a very special VIP 40th Anniversary opening day courtesy of the good folks at Dollywood with my hilarious pal, Tyler and our amazing park guide, Cam! During Dolly’s opening parade, I held up an original 1967 LP jacket of Dolly’s debut album “Hello, I’m Dolly” to which Our Queen spotted, locked eyes with me and then pointed in our direction in complete shock. No less than 25 people came up to tell me “That was amazing! You have been blessed!” Make sure you watch for it at the end of the video. When I was in my 20’s, before I met my longest partner, I had a relationship for 8 months with a beautiful, kind, smart, patient Australian guy.We met on a dance floor of a long gone Atlanta 24 hour dance club. The first thing he ever said to me was, “Where have you been?” to which I replied, “Waiting for you.”He came to America to experience things, to see what it was about. Instead of partying, he found me and we lived in our own world for a little while. For a time, we kept out the addiction and sadness that had gripped me and the Cancer that was slowly taking him from this world. He had come to the US because he was dying. We found love in a hopeless place. He taught me to be stable, to not fear joy, to know someone liked me for me and that love doesn’t have to be about trauma or control. I made him two promises when he left to return home: 1) to never say his name out loud and 2) to never go find his grave. He said, “I will love you forever. From this world into the next. That will never change.” I get that now.I don’t have a photo of him anymore but this photo reminds me of the energy we shared every day in our all too short time together. So, love yourself, love the people you love, embrace joy, seek things that bring happiness and know love is not something we celebrate only one day of the year. ❤️ by @garrettmanry

Today would have been my Momma’s 90th birthday. She was never the kind of person to make a fuss about her birthday or accomplishments. She was an amazing woman. I’ve had sad moments since she left in March but mostly I think of her and say to myself “Do you have a photo of your momma with Eleanor Rosevelt when she was young, gifted and beautiful?” 🤍BTW, “Leaves That Are Green” by Simon & Garfunkel was one of her all time favorite songs. 🍃🍂••#southernculture #southernfamily#happybirthdaymomma #mymommaiscoolerthanyours#eleanorroosevelt by @garrettmanry

Helen Harrell Manry, my intelligent, beautiful and fascinating momma, left this world Saturday, March 16, 2024. She lived thru all the events you see here and more. She was alive for most of the 20th Century. She was very much aware of where she was and what was going on when she left us despite being 89 years young.She didn’t want a funeral or any fuss. Not her style. In fact, I know me not including her photo here is very much in keeping with who she was. by @garrettmanry
