Woke up in Rio and just had to pull over for this. 😍
This is the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro — over 100 years old, inspired by the Paris Opera House, and absolutely dripping in gold. That eagle on top, the green patina domes, the gold trim on every ledge... I stood there just staring. Told Leandro I wanted a ladder so I could reach up and touch just a little piece of it. (Kidding, don't need Brazilian jail on this trip 😂)
Buildings like this remind you why people fall in love with this city. If heaven has gold like this, I can't wait to see it. taken in Theatro Municipal Do Rio De Janeiro by @garrying22

Farofa is something I found interesting my first time in Brasil. It is a staple. No it is not sand. It is a carbohydrate. Brazilian cuisine is a different world. It is good though. by @garrying22

Hey y'all, this is Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio State, Brasil. My home and one of the most beautiful cities in Brasil. Over 500,000 people. One of the largest cities in land mass in Brasil. Wonderful place, lovely people. Diverse region, mountains, beaches, ocean, lakes, rivers, and sooo much more taken in Parque São Caetano, Campos Dos Goytacazes by @garrying22

This appeared in my Instagram feed today. I thought it was sad but oh so true. Worst part is it seems the majority does not care of the magnitude of the seriousness of this situation. by @garrying22

Good morning all. I woke up with so much anxieties this morning I did some research, started writing, and decided to make this post. It is what is in my heart. I am saying it now because our freedom of speech is being threatened.

There are moments in history when silence becomes permission.

I am 70 years old. I lived through segregation. I remember what it felt like when dignity depended on who had the courage to speak. I know what happens when injustice is normalized and when good people decide it is safer to look away.

That is why I am publicly expressing support for the Honorable Al Green, the Honorable Jasmine Crockett, The Honorable Hakeem Jeffries, the Honorable James Clyburn, my president, President Barack Obama and other members of Congress who are willing to stand up, visibly and unapologetically, when they believe something is wrong.

You may not agree with every tactic. You may not agree with every word. That is not the point.
The point is courage.

It takes conviction to stand in a national chamber, knowing cameras are rolling and criticism will follow. It takes resolve to risk being mocked, removed, or mischaracterized because you believe a line has been crossed.

History has shown us what happens when harmful rhetoric goes unchecked. It does not end well for marginalized communities. It does not end well for democracy.

Supporting leaders who speak out is not about personality. It is about principle. It is about saying that truth matters, dignity matters, and equal humanity is not negotiable.

If you believe in justice, say so. If you believe in equal protection under the law, say so. If you believe we cannot go backward, say so.

Courage is contagious, but only if others stand up as well.

Silence is easy. History is not. by @garrying22

Isn't this some bulltihs! This is when America was great? How is giving us, (black and brown), rights taking away from the rights of others. Are we not humans just like whites? What version of the bible New Testament are whites called Christian nationals reading? Are they aware Mary and Joseph escaped to Egypt, an African country, and went unnoticed, does that make them white? When does common sense, and intelligence begin with these people? Oh! I forgot, it is just pure unadulterated hate. Hmmmmm! by @garrying22

When Was America Great?
Was it when men, women and children were lynched not in secret but in daylight while crowds gathered, smiling for photographs?

Was it when churches preached salvation, but denied humanity?

Was it when skin color was treated as a crime punishable by death?

They called those gatherings "community events.:
They called hatred "order."

They called that violence "justice."

So I ask again, when was America ever great?

Greatness cannot be built on terror.
It cannot stand on the broken necks of the innocent.
It cannot breathe through flames fueled by a burning little black boy or girl. Nor through a rope.

If America is to be great, it must be great for ALL of us.
Not in memory.
Not in myth.
But in truth.

Remembering this history is not about hate.

It is about refusing to forget!!!

By me: Garry Chisolm, an American born in America, a decendant of a slave named Phibbi Hawkins Chisolm, who died in 1938 at 126, (it is on her tombstone), who helped built this country. May her soul and the souls of all those who suffered, and toiled just like her rest in peace.

Happy Black History month. Only I do not see anything to be happy about with this administration. Especially, knowing this is what they want us to go back to. by @garrying22

My current situation. God's mercies are new every morning. This morning my devotion was about not worrying, not having fear and not having doubts. I trust in God. Great is His faithfulness. So, I am walking into this facility, Laboratório Plinio Bacelar and these exam rooms. I am in God's hands and I trust in Him no matter the results taken in Laboratório Plinio Bacelar by @garrying22
