What a great love story.

They’re no longer here, but so much of who I am began with them.

They raised me with love, taught me to lead with kindness, and gave me the courage to live with purpose and be WHO TF I am!! Every place I go and every thing I do, I carry them with me.

I hope the life I’m building reflects the love they gave me.

Great session. See you next week.

That “wanna go fishing?” text always hits different.

The ending happens at least once every trip. 😂 @outdoorgearandbeer

Look, I don’t have human kids. But I have a Portie that’s always on my mind. His health, happiness, etc.

If you saw my last post, you know how I went from fishing to the emergency room. But the part I keep thinking about - What went through my pups mind after watching me collapse? Hear me out…

I somehow make it home. I barely made it through the front door. I mumbled a few words, walked past Tabi and Tux, and fell straight to the ground in pain.

Normally, Tux gets his whole welcome home routine from me - a bunch of noise/chaos and us annoying Tabi. But that day, I could barely look at him, let alone play.

I couldn’t explain what was happening or tell either of them I was okay. At first, Tabi thought I might be joking because, if you know me, you know I play too much. At times, I’ve even pretended to be hurt just to see what Tux would do.

But this time, they both knew something was off. When I finally managed to say, “Let’s go to the ER,” Tabi knew it might be serious. Tux came over, licked me, stood over me, then curled up right beside me. If he could’ve climbed inside me to figure out what was wrong, he would’ve. He didn’t leave my side. He stayed right there while I was going through some of the worst pain I’ve ever felt.

And somehow, even in the middle of all that, I was still aware of him. I could feel how worried he was. Watching those instincts kick in when I actually needed him did something to me. This wasn’t one of our little games. My boy was locked in.

At the hospital, once the meds kicked in and I could think again, I kept replaying that moment. Tabi always says Tux was made for me-that he’s basically me in dog form. I think I finally understood what she meant.

We kept wondering how he was doing after we left. Did he understand why I disappeared after seeing me in pain?

Maybe that sounds like a lot to say about a dog. But if you get it, you get it. That’s my boy, and I swear we came out of that night with an even tighter bond.

I may never know what he was thinking, but I damn sure know what he showed me.

When life hits, he’s four paws down. We really don’t deserve dogs.

Here we are, on yet another random adventure - this time, the ER.

I thought the story of the day was catching a shoal bass w/ a chubby on my last cast with the homie.

Plot twist: a few hours later, I was in the ER with a kidney stone that damn near took my life. A bit dramatic, and I do mean just a bit…bc I was down real bad. I have never felt pain like that in my life- and I’d be perfectly fine never feeling it again. 🫠

I’m finally discharged, and now I’m home recovering and taking it easy.

But let the record show: I got the fish. Priorities.

Moral of the story - HYDRATE!

I had a good conversation with a friend earlier, and at one point he said, “Mannn, you’re a wild dude.”😂

I always laugh when someone says that, but later, I really thought about it - am I wild? I know I’ve always chartered outside the ‘norm’ since I was a kid, but…am I wild?! 🥴⛑️

Honestly, I don’t think I am. I think I’m curious. And maybe curiosity looks wild in a world that teaches people to become predictable.

I wanna see what happens when I say YES. Take the unfamiliar road. Talk to someone I’ve never met. Try something before I feel completely ready.

Every experience has introduced me to a part of myself that routine never could.

I used to think finding yourself meant sitting still long enough to figure everything out. Nahh,🙅🏾‍♂️ I think you HAVE to live, explore, connect, get uncomfortable and remain open enough to meet whoever you’re becoming.

So yea…maybe I am a little wild. But forever curious.🤟🏾🛤️

I know there’s more of you and I’m praying for you all. 😂

Sooo…I like to get my stuff out of the way as soon as we get home. Tabi treats her suitcase like a used pan in the sink- she lets it sit for a few days because apparently, it “needs to soak.” 😂

Next trip comes and she’s already packed. We all have our process. 😂

Being outside is one of the best things in life. But figuring out how to start? That can feel like a whole different adventure.

Especially if you didn’t grow up doing outdoor activities, don’t know what gear you need or want to introduce your kids to something you’re still learning yourself. I’m just happy you’re trying to get up, get out and get somethin’.

I grew up camping, but things change. * C’est la vie * Gear gets better, safety practices evolve and there’s always something new to learn- or relearn. But that’s part of what makes the outdoors fun: no matter how much experience you have, you can always stay curious.

And my curiosity always takes me back to REI. There’s nothing like being hands-on. They honestly have workshops you would’ve never thought they had workshops for. And you can register for little to no cost.

Nobody starts as an expert, and experience doesn’t mean you stop learning. Sometimes you just need a place where you can ask your wildest questions, touch the gear and build enough confidence to take the next step.

Check REI for events and workshops near you, and tag somebody you wanna have a good time with outside.

🗣️ Shoutout to my guy Bill at @rei Atlanta. We’ve been sharing stories + laughs ever since. 🤘🏽

This is our era of yes. 🏕️

Cheers to adventure

Sooo…The next “yes” is a refusal of the default. We’re going against normalcy. Nothing ordinary-just a dramatic exploration of everything we can see, hear, taste, touch and feel.

Leave nothing unlived

Moab’s most scenic road? Potash Road makes one hell of a case.

The road follows the Colorado River beneath massive red rock cliffs, with ancient petroglyphs, dinosaur tracks, and climbing spots along the way. Yes, you can pull over, get out the car, and go climbing. There’s so many micro adventures to do on this road. It’s one of those drives where the journey really is the destination.

We took a short off-road detour (high-clearance 4x4 recommended) and found those electric-blue potash ponds sitting in the middle of all that red rock.

Sitting pretty, but with purpose. The ponds are actually part of the potash-mining process. Miners pump mineral-rich saltwater underground to dissolve potassium salts, and the brine is pumped back to the surface. The sun and wind evaporate the water, leaving behind potash that’s collected and used mainly in fertilizer. Creating several hundred tons daily.

And the blue color? Added dye to help absorb more sunlight and speeds up evaporation.

Nature, science and a little off-roading all in one ridiculously scenic drive. IMO - Potash Road is def. worth the adventure.

I’m not the same person I was a year ago. 🙅🏾‍♂️

And that was always the plan. We spend so much time moving through life that we rarely stop long enough to ask if the life we’re building is still the one we actually want.

Moab gave me space to reflect…not only on how far I’ve come, but on what I want this next chapter to feel like. I don’t need a perfect plan. Just a clear one: stay healthy, create a life of freedom, be bold, love deeply, help people, laugh often and leave something meaningful behind.

Trips can create that space, but don’t wait for a plane ticket to check in with yourself. And don’t let every trip be just an escape. Ask what it awakened in you, and bring that version of yourself home.

Pause. Get quiet. Make your list.

I’m constantly evaluating what “MY RICH LIFE” looks like.

If you have breath in your lungs, you still have time to build a life that feels like yours. 🤟🏾 - Gary

There’s always that little moment right before you do something “different” where your brain gives you one last opportunity to reconsider your life choices.

That didn’t happen for me. 😂😂 I’m standing on the edge of a canyon in Moab, clipped into a rope, looking down into a canyon - smiling.

But getting up there was half the story. We made our way deep into the desert, off-roaded up the canyon, and climbed our way to a place where the boomers would probably say I had no business standing in the first place.

Then came the easy part: JUMP

No long countdown. No overthinking it. One step off the edge and suddenly I’m free falling into a canyon before the rope catches and sends me swinging.

Man… WHAT A FEELING. We did some incredible things in Moab, but if I’m wrapping up the three main experiences from this trip that I’ll probably be talking about for a while, this one is the clear winner.

The Moab rope swing. Because somebody in the family has to have good stories to tell. @ropeswingmoab 🤘🏾
