Facing my 10th surgery 🏥 instead of my 3rd workout this year.

What I thought was a slip turned out to be my quad tendon tearing. Not the start I planned, but I’m tackling it head-on! No hiding, no victim mentality. 2024 will be my best year, injured and all, with another surgery pending! 🤷🏾‍♂️ I’ll limp across the finish line with hard work,help, grace, prayers, deep study and deep work.

To those unsure, not at their best, or second-guessing your greatness, I see you. When you see yourself, you’ll stop holding back and start giving your best for the little boy or girl inside.

The NFL season is here 🏈

And as an athlete, there’s only one opinion that truly matters:

Your own.

Your belief in yourself. 💪🏽

Your relentless pursuit of the football.😤

Your attention to detail.📐

Your willingness to make a play when your number is called. ▶️

Your ability to lock in and focus—🤔

One play at a time.

One game at a time.

When I was on the field, nothing else mattered.

Not anyone else’s opinion.

Not how many stars I had. ⭐️

Not whether I was a first-round pick, an undrafted rookie, or the captain of a Super Bowl team 🏆

I signed a contract.

Not with the NFL—

With myself.

“Whatever you ask of yourself, double the amount of work.”

Because talent can open a door, but preparation determines what happens when you walk through it.

Nothing in life is guaranteed.

Looking back on my life, I owe a great deal to the game of football.

It taught me discipline, persistence, courage, and toughness. 💪🏽💪🏽

It gave me the ability to lead, inspire, motivate, coach, and encourage others.

If you allow it, football will shape the man you become. It can open doors, create lifelong opportunities, and give you the ability to take care of yourself and your family.

People sometimes ask me, “Aren’t you afraid of the injuries, the concussions, or the long-term effects?”

That’s a valid question—fa sho. 🤔

But I’m even more concerned about the timid souls who never develop the toughness, teamwork, discipline, and grit that this game can provide—those who continually choose comfort over challenge.

The game is tough. There’s no doubt about it.

But just like anything else in life, if you choose to step into the arena—if you choose the smoke—make sure you train your mind to dominate.

Embrace the challenge. Develop the discipline. Become comfortable being uncomfortable.

Football doesn’t just build better players.

It builds stronger men. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

Day 2 watching Gary Jr. compete at Football University Top Gun Camp in Naples, FL.
He’s going head-to-head with some of the best players in the nation from the Class of 2030, and to say he’s holding his own would be an understatement.
More than anything, I’m proud of the way he’s competing, learning, and embracing the coaching. Iron sharpens iron, and this is exactly where you find out what you’re made of.

As a kid, there was nothing I wanted more than my father’s approval. Growing up in the ‘80s, my dad wasn’t always the type to say it out loud or wear his emotions on his sleeve. But deep down, I knew he was proud of me.

Now, as a man and a father myself, I’ve come to realize there’s few things more meaningful than hearing someone say they’re proud of you—especially when you know you’ve earned it through your character, your effort, and the way you show up every day.

This Father’s Day, if there’s a man, a father, a coach, a mentor, or a father figure who has impacted your life, take a moment to reach out. Let him know you’re grateful. Let him know you’re proud of the man he is and what he’s meant to your journey.

Those words may mean more than you’ll ever know.

Happy Father’s Day to all the men doing their best to lead, provide, protect, and love. Your impact matters.
