A little surfer girl dream come to life 🌊🏄🏼‍♀️✨ This shoot was such a special one for me because it brought together so many things I love. Beautiful hair, the ocean, creativity, and the incredible people behind the scenes who make moments like this possible. 🤍 I had the absolute best time creating all of these beachy, effortless looks for the girls and watching everything come together with the stunning @garylinden surfboards as the perfect backdrop. There’s just something so special about creating hair that feels like you, natural but enhanced and expensive. Hair that’s equally at home on a wave or out for cocktails with the girlies. 🍸 A huge thank you to @garylinden Surfboards for letting us bring this vision to life and for creating such beautiful boards that fit the entire aesthetic perfectly. 🏄🏼‍♀️ Gary is the GOAT. Big Wave Small Talk 🎙️ latest episode with @garylinden breaking down Laje da Jagua, a submerged reef 5 kilometers off the coast of Brazil hosting the upcoming Mormaii Big Wave Alliance Championship. The official competitors list was recently announced by @thebigwavealliance as the event window for the inaugural paddle competition is now officially open through November 30, 2026. The event will be livestreamed as 12 men and 6 women push the limits of big wave paddle surfing with a world title on the line, and equal prize money for both the men’s and women’s champions. La temporada de olas en Puerto Escondido se adelantó y ah llegado con fuerza Playa Zicatela ha recibido swells de alto nivel, con olas increíbles. Ya vimos olones y tubazos brutales, como la ola de Quetzal Estrada @quetzalestrada metiéndose en una caverna. Otra de las olas increíbles fue la de @tehuenpetroni Tehuén, surfeada con un nivel técnico muy alto… de esas donde muchos hubieran terminado en wipeout. Y hablando de wipeouts… wow. Qué olón se tiró nuestro amigo Bimbi @isaa_pxm Se rifó como un guerrero. Y así como él, muchos locales representaron con todo. Muchas felicidades a todos los guerreros que se metieron a surfear estas increíbles olas. Lo mejor de este swell del sur que ha recibido Puerto es que ha movido mucha arena. Como lo explicó nuestro gran fotógrafo Edwin Morales @moralesedwin en uno de sus posts, estos swells han ayudado a acomodar el fondo de Zicatela. Esto puede marcar una gran temporada. Ojalá 🤞🏼 así sea. Aquí les comparto esta ola que surfie en estas mismas fechas el año pasado deseando unas así oh mejores para esta temporada. 🎥by @nnm.project by @garylinden

Gary Linden at his board shop in Oceanside, 2025 It was an honor and privilege to meet and photograph Gary at his shop on Wisconsin Street. Judging by his gentle and welcoming demeanor, you would never know Gary is one of the heaviest chargers the sport has ever known. Highly regarded as the godfather of big wave surfing, the founder of the Big Wave Surfing World Tour, and the former president of the ASP, Gary was inducted into the San Diego Surfing Hall of Fame ( @sandiegosurfinghalloffame ) which my uncle and I had attended earlier this year. His contributions to the sport and culture of surfing are insurmountable, and yet he maintains a sort of timeless humility that is rare to come across these days. I had kept seeing Gary around the neighborhood and realized that he was exactly the person I needed to photograph next on my medium format journey. I was nervous approaching the shop but Gary welcomed me in like a guest in his home. He was tinkering with this old truck (I have no idea what kind) in the back, and was very generous and patient with his time while I fiddled with my camera. I asked if I could buy a hoodie to support the shop, and he tossed it to me no charge with a jovial “just give me the picture!” I had intended for these photos to be color, but my entire inventory of repurposed 220 ended up being mislabeled, so it was a total crapshoot how these images came out. I also flashed the roll if you couldn’t tell. Nonetheless, I’m very happy with the result despite the very obvious quality issues with the repurposed film. Learning to roll with the punches seems to be the most important part of shooting on such “archaic” equipment. I urge anyone in search of a quality board with substantial history behind it to give Gary a visit and support his business. His work with Balsa and Agave is beautiful, and his philosophy in board making is backed by real world experience very few other shapers could boast. Anyways, thank you for who you are Gary!
