When I was younger, I was often guilty of failing to honor and recognize the value of continuity with the past. “That’s old school.” “Nobody does it like that anymore.” “The future is here.”

I wish I went slower in some of the things I did differently from the generations that came before me. Change seems to be coming at us so fast now that its pace can completely un-anchor us from the wisdom of some of our traditions, values and hard earned lessons of our shared history. To say nothing of respect for a generation that came before us in general.

I’m older now. It’s easy to complain. And I’m not suggesting that all the older folks become backseat drivers to a younger generation.

But I see multigenerational blessings throughout the Bible,
and wish we had more of it in our churches and our American culture today.

There’s a reason He identifies Himself as the “God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…”

God has special blessings for those who honor, understand and build a relational bridge across multiple generations.

Are you struggling or suffering in this holiday season? Will it ever get any better?

This one thing I have lived through in 65 years of life experience, and this one thing I know for sure.

Lies and misinformation are not harmless. And when we believe them, we pay a heavy price.

A few observations for my friends, whichever way you lean politically and whichever way you lean spiritually:

1. Lies and misinformation are nothing new. It’s up to each and every one of us to dig deeper beyond labels and widely circulated myths, hyperbole, and tactics designed to divide us and prevent us from getting to the truth.

2. Don’t be intellectually lazy. Do your homework, dig deep, get context, be open minded, and get the facts. Stay humble and be open to change. Don’t just believe something because it’s been posted 1,000 times or been said 1,000 times or been liked 1 billion times on social media.

3. In a time where the cultural and political divisions and changes in our country are probably greater than they’ve ever been since the 1960s, it’s especially important now that we are all “quick to listen, slow to anger, and slow to speak.” (James 1:19)

4. Pray, stay open to God, read your Bible regularly and stay close to Jesus as we all navigate together through turbulent times. This is not a time to hide your head in the sand or pretend that nothing‘s going on. It is good to be involved and engaged in the big moral and cultural issues of our time. It’s OK to disagree, but it’s not OK to be a part of the problem and not the solution.

5. I don’t know what the future holds and neither do you. Let’s all stop pretending like we can predict what’s coming next. Only God can do that.

6. Above all, let’s continue to pay our ongoing debt to love one another and love our neighbors as our ourselves. This is my prayer for us in America today, especially those of us who call ourselves Christians. ❤️🙏 by @garymauro

Visiting my 87-year-old mother in Oceanside, CA for a visit long in the making. Helping her do a complete bathroom and home remodeling and reorganizing project with the help of some of her amazing friends for long term health, safety and the ability to continue living the independent life she now has and loves so much.

She is in amazing shape and has such energy and fight for life. She still goes to her local buccaneer beach almost every day, shares JesBarbara M. Quigleyth anyone and everyone who comes by, and has done this now for nearly 40 years.

Please pray with me for God‘s continued blessing upon my amazing mother, Barbara M. Quigley. ❤️🙏
