Sending love from our community to yours this holiday weekend. Keep sharing your stories everyone! Monday’s screening of @gatesmovie at @petits_salons began with a live performance by composer and artist @coreyvogeln, whose gestural drumming and kinetic artistry set the tone for an open hearted evening. Thank you to filmmaker @johnburr4 and everyone @lionsgate who gathered to watch and engage in meaningful dialogue about race, politics, religion, and identity. The conversation that followed the screening deepened our understanding of power, belonging, and representation. With the recent loss of our friend and star of the film @vanderjames we were reminded life is too short to not take those leaps of faith. Celebrating artists and staying connected in love of our humanity is more important than ever. The salon series is hosted and curated by @jamesaaronoliver @darbygaellehannon @sarah_carter_oxox and presented by @blkbrdfilms @cheshiremoonproductions. Looking forward to seeing you at our next gathering. ✨ by @gatesmovie

This Monday June 22 @petits_salons will be screening The Gates, a socially charged thriller written and directed by John Burr. Join us on the magical rooftop of @petitermitagehotel. Doors open at 7:00pm with live music in the Wiggle Room. After the set, we’ll head out to the Fire Deck for the screening at 8pm followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. The Gates was released nationwide in theaters through Lionsgate on March 13, 2026. The film follows three college friends whose road trip spirals into terror after they witness a murder inside a powerful gated community. Trapped inside, hunted by residents who blame them, their bond fractures as a charismatic yet sinister patriarch closes in. Starring @MasontheGooding, @itsAlgee Smith, and @KeithPowers, alongside James VanDer Beek, The Gates represents a bold expansion of Burr’s cinematic voice onto the national stage. Early reactions were strong, with Collider calling it “an instant cult classic.” Petits Salons is an ongoing collaboration between Petit Ermitage, Cheshire Moon Productions, and Blkbrd Films. Don’t miss out on this very special evening and unique opportunity to network with fellow arthouse film lovers! **This screening will include a Q&A with @gatesmovie filmmaker @johnburr4 Burr holds a Master’s degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and a Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College. Of mixed heritage, he is related on his mother’s side to Bankie Banx, the iconic reggae artist from Anguilla, and on his father’s side, he is related to Aaron Burr of Hamilton duel fame. Monday night we’ll be screening @gatesmovie with writer and director @johnburr4 . John Burr is an award-winning filmmaker originally from Dallas, Texas, known for crafting elevated horror and psychological thrillers that blend genre tension with layered social perspective. Burr’s latest feature, The Gates, which he wrote and directed, was released nationwide in theaters through Lionsgate on March 13, 2026. A tense, socially charged thriller, the film follows three college friends whose road trip spirals into terror after they witness a murder inside a powerful gated community. Starring Mason Gooding, Algee Smith, and Keith Powers, alongside James Van Der Beek, The Gates represents a bold expansion of Burr’s cinematic voice onto the national stage. Early reactions were strong, with Collider calling it “an instant cult classic.” The film marks a major studio-backed evolution of Burr’s work and further solidifies his reputation for delivering elevated, character-driven genre storytelling that sparks conversation long after the credits roll. His feature debut, Muse (2018), a psychological thriller inspired by Irish folklore, garnered international acclaim for its atmosphere, originality, and confident direction, establishing Burr as a bold new voice in genre filmmaking. The film received multiple honors at the Austin Revolution Film Festival, including nominations for Best Horror Feature, Best Cinematography, Best in Show - Feature, and Best Soundtrack/Score, and went on to win Best Horror and Best Feature Film at various international festivals.
