Honestly, I’m still a bit scared of what people might think of this record. Writing these songs, I dared myself to be vulnerable and honest in a way I never allowed myself to be. I spent so much of my life hiding who I was. Living a lie in the closet.

Making this record was the line in the sand. Once crossed, there could be no more hiding. Tell the truth, Sal. There’s no going back.

So today I share my story with you. The moments where I wanted to end it all and the moments where I felt like I could see god. This record explores them all at 200BPM.

After I laid down the final vocal tracks for our debut album, Sky Is Blue, something was lifted…

Writing this thing, i pulled back the curtain on years of hiding. Hiding my queerness, my shame, my anger… all the stuff I used to bury under metaphor in my old songs. With this record, I was finally ready to tell the truth.
 Making art has always helped me to carry the weight. But this album was the one that set me free.

It’s not easy to tell the truth. But damn, it feels good to stop hiding.

“i guess i make art so i don’t k*ll myself.”

i didn’t even mean to say it. I was demoing the chorus of the song that would be come “Panic Bedroom 2005” and it just came out.

saying it out loud felt terrifying. for a long time I hid behind metaphors when writing about growing up in the closet. it always felt safer to hide. making art, making music, it gave me a way to process and express myself. it kept me alive.

this record was the first time I stopped trying to make my experiences palatable and comfortable for others. Don’t hide. Just say the damned thing.

even if no one ever listens, I feel like I’ve already won. I ain’t hiding anymore.

i spent a long time convinced that if people really knew me, i would lose everything. my family. my friends. my future. so i got very good at hiding. good at shrinking myself. good at performing whatever version of masculinity kept me safe. but shame has weight. eventually you can’t carry it anymore.

this song is called “Run Forever.” it’s about coming out and choosing the real you.
