“Five-faced is the Great God, Shiva who embodies all five elements.”

This painting marks the beginning of my Kashi Series — an artistic exploration of Shiva’s divine city and its cosmic origins.

In this first chapter, I depict the moment of creation when Shiva, in His fivefold form — Panchanan — manifests Kashi into existence.
Each face of Panchanan Shiva represents a direction, a consciousness, and an element:
सद्योजात (Earth), वामदेव (Water), अघोर (Fire), तत्पुरुष (Air), ईशान (Ether).
Together, they shape the five building blocks of the universe.

From these elements emerged Kashi — not a city placed on earth, but one held upon Shiva’s own trident, suspended between realms.
A city believed to remain even when the universe dissolves into silence.

Through this artwork, I attempted to capture that cosmic stillness — the moment when the eternal creator holds His eternal city, not as stone and structure, but as pure consciousness.

With this piece, Shiva’s Divine City Exploration begins — a journey through energies, symbolism, and the sacred architecture woven into Kashi’s very soul.

Ashtabhuja — my Kuldevi, also known as Vandurga, a form of Goddess Parvati.
For over five hundred years, She has protected our lineage — fierce yet deeply compassionate.

She is the Goddess of the Forest, draped not in gold, but in the language of nature —
Her ornaments woven from arhul blossoms, Her crown sculpted from fresh leaves.

In Her eight hands, She carries two swords, a trishul, and the blessings of Varadamudra and Abhayamudra.
One sword rises high, symbolizing Her boundless strength.
Yet beside Her sits a lion — calm, composed, almost tender — reflecting the quiet power She holds within.

She is Vandurga — where nature meets divinity, where strength blooms through stillness.

This painting is my offering through Gaurangan — Gauri Maa’s and also my first on this page so holds a special part in me āngan,
