POSTS STORIES REELS

More Radio Remembrance with my my first radio gig at @rokfm95five in Parkes NSW. For a self sheltered kid (because I was about 15/16 maturity wise) the whole thing lasted 3 months and I quit and came home.

A valuable lesson, another failure because I quit. But I sometimes wonder what happened I stayed? Do events get out of there to better gig? Do I mess it up and get fired? Etc etc etc. Do I still get into a car accident the next year but die? Who knows…

Shouts to Mal Headstrom RIP @comingupmelhouse and Dion wherever he is now for being good people and understanding a kid out of his depth.

More stories of your favourite Radio failure next week. #25years by @gavcrossley

The latest map for where you can hear @90stilshow in Australia. We have a bunch of online and Community stations in 16 countries worldwide. But Australia is home and that’s where I mostly send the show too.

From Esperence to Darwin, Meander Valley in Tassie to Burdekin in QLD! We are in every state except ACT which a territory anyway…

I’ve built this from scratch and im proud of the distribution for this rather self centred wowed nostalgia fest. But I’m also a decent radio presenter… so I guess that helps. Anyway. Behold my network!

My greatest failure remains to be the short lived time in Kalgoorlie (about 3 months). I hated it there. Being on minimum wage in a mining town was no fun. It’d be like doing this job in Headland or Karratha now… no thanks.

It was a bad fit from the start, especially when the previous guy in my spot was so beloved. It was like Jesus left and you got a snivelling crackhead with AIDS instead (which is how it felt internally)… I always told to be more like that guy… It pissed me off so much I started to pretty much rail against everything.

I made my feelings known in a blog post and it got me fired. Incredibly Stupid stuff from me, but absolutely self-destructive, and I was glad to go. I left town that day… and never looked back.

This is where my career should’ve ended. A heaving flaming disaster, which was mostly my fault. 🤦🏻‍♂️ It didn’t and Taree happened 4 years later.

This was my greatest failure… but not everything is roses and cake. This was a Superpit and I earned this L.

Anyway this is a big part of the 25 years of Radio. The one I learned from the most. by @gavcrossley

Those early Depot days at @89.7fm as they look down the barrel of 25 years on air. So do I. My first show was 2 weeks after they started on-air and thus @brlson born.

Outside drunk rappers, smashed cakes, internet forum beef 🥩 and some of my favourite radio memories. I made some life long friends. I may not see much of you guys anymore.

Adult responsibilities like jobs, children and not sitting on Studio 2 on the dole and being a contributing member of society put an end to that … I miss THESE days and nights.

Radio for the love, the creativity and probably in hindsight some stuff which I’d pull my out as former PD now.

Anyway shouts to the real ones! Stale dental smell, Boogaloo and all.

25 years On Air in November. by @gavcrossley

Found some GOLD.... and just OLD! Earliest known photos of BRL... or the forgotten Saturday version called "Relaxing Jam Called Saturdays" I had a co-host in my longest time friend Courtney on that show for a bit too.

More OLD AF BRL stuff as I find it.

25 Years of this bullshit in November BTW. WTF! by @gavcrossley

I always told @alana_nicole_brown that she missed my peak. Now I just realise I was just was funny looking 👀 always. The only women who paid attention were, because I was on radio or could get them a free drink… anyways.

Look back at 25 years On Air the two most important were my time at @maxfm1073 Outside of Dadhood the most important years of my life. Made some dumb decisions, got screwed over in a few ways.

Learned a bunch of lessons and met some great people. You know who you are. The was the swan song of my radio dream, it was a pretty meh career. But hey with my limitations I did really well. by @gavcrossley

More Radio memories stolen from @89.7fm although the pics were from me anyway. Regardless this is 10 years ago at the Wanneroo Show! I wish I liked radio this much anymore. by @gavcrossley

#fathersday always is an odd one for me. I didn’t know my Dad. He left us in 1990 and died in 2018, so I don’t have a father figure to mould off.

So I’ve gone in blind to this thing called fatherhood. I know I’m not the best Dad. But I do love my little grubs and I would do a lot for them (which is more than a can say most people).

To Teokura, Niamh and Maverick thank you for giving me a purpose beyond myself and a reason to live beyond just making radio shows and annoying Alana.

Challenging as it is, as someone who doesn’t really express emotions as well as most, you guys bring the best and worst of out of me. I love those kids so much. And I can’t wait to see them when I fly home on Monday. #dadlife by @gavcrossley

This was posted on @89.7fm socials. If you see me, I’m obscured at the back of this photo for the Wanneroo times at studios at the Works Depot in November 2001. The sweet smell of the carpet (think stale dentist) and garbage.

Radio was the MOST fun in these days. I loved it so much. For me it’s Almost 25 years of talking into microphones in padded rooms as of November. I feel like I should celebrate. 🍾 but no one cares but me. Whatever.

Tales of misspent youth… although I’d do almost of all the same again. #backinthedays by @gavcrossley

Being Dad of 3 can be a pain in the arse. Not in this moment. 🥰 by @gavcrossley

Another @90stilshow Season complete! Lock it away. Time to continue with Season 5 due 2027! #linkinbio by @gavcrossley

AI SLOP for my 42nd Birthday! Because the answer is 42 years showing like hell on my ever aging body and face.

Not a special birthday in anyway but I have woken up next to Teokura and Maverick and currently getting a cuddle. Niamh is able to sleep on her own because she’s an evil princess.

Anyway. birthday comments leave below this AI slop. He’s to maybe about 35-40 years left and not the fun ones 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️ #happybirthdaytome🎉 by @gavcrossley
