What happens when young people understand democracy, responsible citizenship and their role in shaping their communities?

On Wednesday, 7 October 2026, we took this conversation to Bright Hope School through our Future Leaders Parliament project.

We engaged students in conversations about democracy, responsible citizenship, leadership and the electoral process, exploring how leadership goes beyond holding positions to include responsibility, informed decisions, respect for different perspectives and positive contributions to society.

Beyond the discussions, we brought learning to life through a mock election, where students experienced the electoral process firsthand and participated in selecting 10 Future Leaders Ambassadors.

This was more than a classroom demonstration. It gave students a practical opportunity to understand elections, participation and how leaders can be selected through an electoral process.

For us, this outreach was an opportunity to help young people see themselves as active participants in their schools, communities and the future of our country.

We believe preparing tomorrow’s leaders begins with the knowledge, values and opportunities we give young people today. Creating spaces where they can learn, ask questions, participate and find their voices is a step towards building a more responsible society.

We are deeply grateful to LEAP Africa and the Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) for sponsoring and supporting this project through the Youth Leadership Development Programme. Your support helped turn this vision into a meaningful learning experience.

Our sincere appreciation also goes to Bright Hope School for welcoming us, partnering with us and giving us the opportunity to engage their students. Thank you for believing in the importance of preparing informed, responsible and capable future leaders.

To everyone who contributed to making this outreach possible, thank you for being part of this journey.

Blood is one of the few resources in healthcare that cannot be manufactured, it can only come from people willing to donate.

As a medical student, I've come to appreciate how critical blood is to patient care and how devastating shortages can be for those in need.

This is one of the core missions of the Lagos Blood Drive Initiative (LBDI), led by Hunye Minasu Joseph, promoting voluntary blood donation and ensuring the availability of safe blood in our communities.

It was a privilege to serve as the Director of Operations and Programs for LBDI, while also leading the Medical Assistants Team during our blood drives at General Hospital, Badagry and LASUTH.

This year edition of the blood drive recorded over 166 pints of blood, each with the potential to save lives.

Kudos to Hunye Minasu Joseph for his vision and leadership, and to every donor, volunteer, team member, partner, and supporter who made this possible.❤️
