Did a lot of reflecting this week and here’s what I realized 🪄 1. Being fully booked and doing hair everyday isn’t enough. It’s the bare minimum in business now days. We have to elevate beyond the chair 2. It’s okay to start over. It’s okay to expand, remove services, add new ones, or even do a full 180. Growth sometimes requires change. It’s also okay to rebrand. Nothing has to stay the same forever, and you don’t have to keep doing things the same way either. 3. Another thing I’m learning is that it’s okay to take breaks. Too often I find myself working up to 18 hours straight off 4 bottles of water and a couple snacks, skipping breakfast and not eating a real meal until midnight. That’s something I’m actively working on changing. 4. I don’t want to just be a braider but if so I urgently need to find a niche lol… 5. Prioritizing life outside of the chair. Whether it’s trying new restaurants, taking a fitness class, going to local events, or enjoying an outing. Just living a little more outside of work. 6. And most importantly… standing on business. After-hours services come with after-hours pricing ($75 additional). Late and cancellation fees will be enforced when communication is absent. Let’s continue to create a great space! CEO here🫶🏾 I don’t talk much about myself here so let me introduce myself. My name is G’Arrie, pronounced “G-Ari” but please call me G🤍 I’ve been a full-time hairstylist for the last 3 years, but my love for hair started long before that. Growing up, I was just your active teen (playing sports, doing cheer, track, and basketball, and always exploring new ways to express myself). I fell in love with doing my own hair watching hour-long YouTube tutorials and experimenting with styles. In middle school, I noticed everyone around me getting braids at African braid shops, and I wanted in but I’d always had permed hair and never had braids. So, my freshman year of high school, I stopped perming and embraced my natural hair, buying my first pack of braiding hair for just $1.98. That moment changed everything. I never looked back. By my last two years of high school, my hair was catching so many eyes and everyone was always curious as to who had done my hair. I’m a tall girl so I would braid my hair to the floor which made so many people wanted to book with me. I didn’t have social media at the time so my teammates finally convinced me to make a hair page. Three years ago, I officially started sharing my work online, and it’s been an amazing journey ever since. My passion for hair is unmatched. I love creating, transforming, and empowering people through their hair! 5 quick facts about me: • My first paying client was my cousin from ATL (2021), and that showed me my worth. • My favorite styles to do are men’s braids and two-strand twists. • I’m very family-oriented, raised by my GMA and great GMA. • I’m 21 years old (which often surprises my clients!). • My first love is cheerleading. Let’s talk about it. WHAT THE FREAK is “90-day braids”??? “Braids are for little girls”??? 😭😭😭 Here’s me, consistently booked for braids while the internet is busy convincing everybody that braids are a “broke girl hairstyle” or “childish.” 🤷🏾‍♀️🥱 Let’s be real. Most of the time, it’s not even about the braids or the braider. It’s the personal relationship YOU have with braids and how YOU feel wearing them. If braids aren’t for you, that’s perfectly fine. But saying they’re childish or a “broke girl hairstyle” is where the conversation gets interesting. 🥴 There are 30+ braid styles alone! Different sizes, lengths, textures and colors. You can get 30+ inches, extra fullness, human hair curls and custom color. Some styles take HOURS and cost hundreds of dollars. So how exactly did braids become a broke girl hairstyle or childish? 😭 And let’s be honest about the texturism and colorism in these conversations too.
