Today, I said a final goodbye to my best friend of 12 years.

Anyone who personally knew me is aware of just how much I loved and cared for my boy. Anyone who came in contact with him easily fell for his sweet disposition. He was my companion throughout my early adulthood and into my 30s. The dog I always wished for when I was younger.

What breaks my heart the most is watching an aggressive cancer steal his joy and his spirit in the matter of a few weeks. And still, he did his absolute best.

However, he filled my life (and my mom’s) with over a decade of unconditional love, joy, and warmth. He taught me responsibility beyond myself. And although I feel like a part of me is leaving with him, I’ll hold onto the memories of chasing squirrels, sharing fries and popcorn, car rides, trail walks, cuddling and naps, hiding from the thunder and rain, and simply being my shadow right beside me.

Rest easy, my sweet, handsome Boe. 🧡 by @gbrl.solis
