Painting is a personal journey where I feel unencumbered, void of inhibition, and completely free of fear.

Feelings manifest themselves as both broad and gestural, and precise and blended strokes that appear on my canvases. Often evocative and dramatic, my paintings deliver a stylistically and often non-representational final product. Texture and color play a significant role in the structure, whether architectural and refined or playful and unrestrained.

I work in acrylic, oil and occasionally charcoal. I often scrape and sand a canvas in places, discovering new textures that may add a richer quality to the piece. My influences range from the energetic improvisation of Willem de Kooning to the bold colors of Hans Hofmann, from the occasional motifs and characters of Grace Hartigan to the gestural action paintings of Michael Goldberg.

RED BARN ** SOLD **
A few miles from where we live is a small rural road with some old houses, a few farms, and this barn. There’s hardly any traffic and I often stop and admire its enduring structure — especially the faded deep red standing out against the landscape and the ever-changing sky.

HORSE STABLE, EARLY SPRING
We have a small rustic stable on our property that was built by a previous owner for his daughter’s horse. It’s been years since anyone has used it and it’s slowly falling into disrepair with its one window, dirt floor, and roof and side slats slowly being reclaimed by Mother Nature. As each season passes, it’s fading into the landscape.

SATURDAY IN THE CITY - the energy of this canvas made me think of weekends in NYC. The nonstop flow from morning through night offers an endless variety of events and activities to choose from, but one of the best is simply stopping to watch the world go by.
