Neutering is an important consideration for cat owners, helping to prevent unplanned litters and supporting responsible cat ownership. 🐾

At GCCF, we recognise the importance of responsible, welfare-focused breeding. For cats who aren't intended for breeding, neutering can offer several benefits, including:

⚠️ Preventing unwanted litters – helping reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies.
⚠️ Reducing certain health risks – neutering can lower the risk of some reproductive conditions, depending on your cat's sex and the procedure.
⚠️ Reducing certain behaviours – including roaming, calling and some hormone-driven behaviours.

But have you thought about pain relief? Neutering is a surgical procedure, and our cats rely on us to make sure their comfort and welfare are prioritised throughout the process.

🐾 Pain relief is an essential part of the conversation. Speak to your vet about the pain management your cat will receive during and after surgery, what to expect during recovery, and how to keep them comfortable at home.

🏡 Follow your vet's aftercare advice, provide a quiet place to rest and contact your veterinary practice if you're concerned about your cat's recovery.

Read more about neutering and pain relief, with an article from our friends at @icatcare via the link in our bio 📖

Responsible cat ownership starts with informed decisions and putting feline welfare first. 💜🐈

Congratulations, Sue! 🎉

We are delighted to congratulate Sue Dalton-Hobbs on becoming a GCCF All Breed Full Judge - making her the 6th person to achieve this milestone! 🏆🐱

Sue’s judging journey began in 2002, and after years of dedication, training and working her way through the breeds, she has now achieved this fantastic accomplishment.

Becoming an All Breed Full Judge is a significant achievement, reflecting the commitment, knowledge and experience required to judge across all breeds recognised by GCCF.

We would like to congratulate Sue on this wonderful milestone and thank her, and all our judges, for the time and dedication they give to the world of pedigree cats.

Please join us in congratulating Sue on this outstanding achievement! 👏 by @gccf_cats

We would like to remind everyone that aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated at GCCF cat shows. GCCF rules are very clear on this type of behaviour.

GCCF SECTION 4 – EXHIBITS AND EXHIBITORS, Rule 31 –
All persons using the show hall or any areas used in conjunction with the show must note that unacceptable or aggressive behaviour WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Any such behaviour may result in the removal of those responsible (and their cats if appropriate) from the show venue. This behaviour may result in disqualification and/or disciplinary action by GCCF. The Show Manager is to inform the GCCF Investigation Committee of any such behaviour within 5 days of the show, giving the relevant facts in writing, and must also inform the person concerned that this action has been taken, and draw their attention to the provisions of this rule.

A form will be provided to Show Managers to assist them to obtain the relevant facts. (Added 23.10.2013, amended 22.10.2014)

So please be considerate of others and be kind.

Let’s settle this once and for all…🐱

What type of cat do you have? 👀

😇 The Angel - never puts a paw wrong
😈 The Menace - chaos is their love language
👑 The Royal - you simply live in their house
🛋️ The Professional Lounger - moving is absolutely not on the agenda
🍽️ The Foodie - thinks every meal is their meal
❤️ The Cuddler - permanently attached to you

Or is your cat a completely different character? 😂

Tell us in the comments - and give us their name too! 👇🐾 by @gccf_cats

A reminder to breeders: responsibility doesn’t end when a kitten leaves your home

Breeding a litter is a commitment that extends far beyond the day a kitten goes to their new home. Responsible breeders should be there to provide support, advice and guidance throughout the cat’s life - including if circumstances change and an owner is no longer able to care for them.

We understand that life can change and that it may not always be possible for a breeder to take a cat back themselves. However, breeders should make sure prospective owners understand what support will be available if they ever find themselves in this situation.

Responsible breeding includes:

🐾 Being available to provide appropriate support and advice throughout a cat’s lifetime.

🐾 Discussing with prospective owners what will happen if their circumstances change and they can no longer keep their cat.

🐾 Offering help with rehoming wherever possible.

🐾 Where appropriate, taking a cat back or helping to identify a safe and suitable alternative home.

🐾 Working with reputable rescue organisations where a breeder is unable to take a cat back themselves.

🐾 Continuing to put the welfare of the cat first, long after the original sale has taken place.

A cat may be four, five or even ten years old, but they are still a kitten that you bred. Their welfare remains important.

This is also something prospective kitten owners should consider before bringing a kitten home.

Ask the breeder: “What would happen if I could no longer keep this cat?”

A responsible breeder should be able to explain what support they would offer and what steps they would recommend if circumstances changed.

Buying a kitten is a long-term commitment - and choosing a breeder who understands that commitment is an important part of giving your new cat the best possible start in life. ❤️

Happy World Smile Day! 😁

To honour today's smiles, here are 5 simple ways to help look after your cat’s dental health:

🦷 Check their teeth & gums - when they’re relaxed, have a quick look for red or swollen gums, tartar, broken teeth or anything that looks unusual.

🪥 Make tooth brushing part of their routine - if your cat will tolerate it, regular brushing with a cat-safe toothbrush and toothpaste can help reduce plaque.

🐱 Keep an eye on their eating - dropping food, chewing on one side, eating less or struggling with harder food could indicate dental discomfort.

👃 Don’t ignore bad breath - a little “cat breath” might be normal, but persistent or particularly unpleasant breath can be a sign of dental disease.

👩‍⚕️ Get regular veterinary checks - your vet can check your cat’s teeth and gums and advise you on the best dental-care routine for them.

And remember, cats are experts at hiding discomfort, so don’t wait for them to stop eating before checking their teeth! ❤️

Now, let’s see those smiles! 😸📸
