Today’s Aprendamos Español word is apapachar (ah-pah-pah-CHAR).

Apapachar means to show someone affection, comfort or care. Especially familiar in Mexican Spanish, the word can describe offering a hug, giving someone a little extra attention, or simply making them feel cared for.

There isn't one English word that captures its meaning perfectly. An apapacho is less about a specific action and more about the warmth and care behind it.

Who would you like to apapachar today?

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, we'll explore Spanish words and expressions that don't always fit neatly into a one-word English translation.
-----------

Talk about Patriot pride! Our Goose Creek Memorial Patriots have been giving it their all every single week, showing up with heart and hustle no matter the opponent.

Our Patriot students recently demonstrated their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink. 🩷 The band, color guard, and Dazzlers also showcased their talent with outstanding performances.

Let’s continue to support and encourage them as they strive for further success!

Today’s Aprendamos Español words are tocayo and tocaya (toh-KAH-yoh / toh-KAH-yah).

A tocayo or tocaya is someone who has the same first name as you.
English has the word namesake, but it isn’t quite the same. In Spanish, especially in Mexico, tocayo and tocaya are commonly used as a friendly way to acknowledge that shared name.

Sometimes discovering you have a tocayo creates an instant little connection.

Do you have a tocayo or tocaya in your family, school or workplace?

Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, we'll explore Spanish words and expressions that don't always fit neatly into a one-word English translation.
