Some massive news: The Catford House has been shortlisted for the Business Awards 2026!

Voting is officially open across a whole range of categories, and it’s time to pick the best of the best across our local community.

The competition this year is fierce, with incredible names in the mix across every single category. We are properly proud to be standing alongside them—and now, we’d love your backing to help bring an award home to Catford.

Exciting Opportunity: Head Chef at The Catford House!

We're on the hunt for a passionate and enthusiastic Head Chef to lead the kitchen at The Catford House.

We're looking for someone who can:

Create incredible food: Develop and deliver our core pub menu and a legendary weekly Sunday roast.

Deliver unforgettable experiences: Plan and oversee food for all of our events, from weddings and parties to corporate and community gatherings.

Make a difference: Build links with the local food economy and champion sustainability, provenance, and ethical sourcing.

You'll be:

The heart of the kitchen: Taking overall responsibility for food, leading by example with hands-on kitchen leadership.

The architect of our food programme: Development, management, and innovation are key!

Part of something special: Join the GCDA family and make a real impact on the local community.

The Role:

Hours: 35 hours per week (flexible across the week)

Salary: £40,000 per annum

Closing Date for Applications: Wednesday 14th October 2026

Interview Dates: Wednesday 21st October 2026 (in person at The Catford House)

There’s 16 days until the bid for the Ladywell Playtower is due! We’ve raised 36% of our target 5k as of today, thank you to the 59 generous donors who’ve gifted so far 🪁🎉🪀.

We also have a new campaign poster (with huge thanks to local designer @fogfonts) that introduces our anchor partners - all local organisations already doing what they do so well. We are honoured to be scheming with them! The Playtower deserves a playful vision in all aspects!

Our team is busy finalising the bid and ticking all the boxes needed. We are also prepping for the weekend @opencity_uk Open House.

You can drop into the hub on Saturday to see some of our initial design drawings inspired by what we heard on the ground during our community consultations. A sneak peak into what is being embedded into the proposals - while we still have to keep the final bid details under wraps.

We can’t wait to share it with you - announcements on that coming soon, a public consultation from all applicants will take place after the bid submission in early October.

@minkaotic and Destasher are back at @thecatfordhouse in South East London on 19th September for another destash/restash event!

Calling all yarn crafters: knitters, crocheters, weavers…

Bring along yarn, patterns, tools and accessories you no longer want and pick up something that sparks fresh ideas for the autumn!

There'll also be a crochet workshop for all ages, and space to settle in with fellow makers for a sip & stitch, so feel free to bring your latest project.

What happens when you give children permission to take over the school kitchen? Magic! ✨

Today was the first of our 4-week Family Cooking programme in partnership with @gcdauk, and what a wonderful morning it was.

Our little chefs got busy making their own Pitta Bread Pizzas and Fruit Salad alongside their parents while learning about healthy eating, food groups and kitchen safety. There were smiles all round as children proudly prepared, shared and enjoyed the healthy meal they had made together.

For us, these moments are about so much more than cooking. They're about building confidence, creating happy memories, nurturing independence and bringing families together around the table.

Before we said goodbye, our brilliant GCDA facilitator Angela invited everyone to vote for next week's menu. The decision was unanimous, Chicken Fajita Wraps and Fruit Cheesecake won by a landslide!

We're so grateful to GCDA for partnering with us to make these opportunities possible for local families.

@capital_growth 🎉🐞 Day 7 of Big City Bug Hunt June Week! 🐝🌿

As we celebrate the end of this year's Big City Bug Hunt, we want to say a huge thank you to all the community growers, volunteers and citizen scientists who got involved! 💚

Over the past week, you've helped record the incredible variety of bugs, pollinators and other invertebrates living in London's growing spaces, showing the vital role community gardens play in supporting urban biodiversity.

The hunt may be ending, but the bug spotting doesn't have to stop!

Taking part is easy:

🌸 Continue spotting and recording bugs during volunteering sessions or dedicated bug hunts through iNaturalist

We're continuing to offer iNaturalist workshops, moth trapping sessions, toolkits and resources to help growers build their buggy knowledge and contribute to valuable community science data.
