Hello Everyone 🌸

I haven't been able to put on children's weekly classes this term and unfortunately I won't be able to run any next month either 😞 So sorry to everybody that was contacting me and waiting for confirmation. I hope to be back with workshops in December and I will upload those details as soon as I know for sure.

I am continuing to see my portfolio students and also any private one-to-one bookings that were in place. Do get in touch if you or someone you know needs help creating or curating their art portfolio.

This drawing is a copy of the work of Kōhei Horikoshi, the Japanese manga artist being researched by one of my students. I'm loving his work on My Hero Academia, Barrage and Oumagadoki Zoo.

So let me know if you have any questions and all the best, Grace 💛

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of hosting a hen party in the artroom for our lovely friends Caoimhe @anotherbadpoem & Mariah @mariah.inman ❤️❤️ Their family and friends were so creative and enthusiastic that I was in a state of delight the whole way through the day! 😍 Thank you so much to everyone for coming here, being amazing and letting me share in such a special occasion 🧡🍁🍹 I adore everything you made and I wish Mariah & Caoimhe all the very, very best for the next step in your adventure together 🧡🧡

We’re taking inspiration from Takashi Murakami in our summer camps this year and from lots of other fabulous Japanese artists 💛 Week one has been amazing and I thank each and every one of these remarkable students for embracing all the challenges and for bringing so much creativity to the art room. Thank you to all the lovely parents too 🌼 #artclass #artcamp #funart #artforkids #gd_artroom by @gd_artroom

Yesterday it was a tribute to David Hockney and today, a tribute to another absolute gentleman 💛

I don't have time to do a new tribute so this five year old drawing will have to do for today.
Rest in peace Mr Hockney ❤️

This is my third post about sketchbooking ahead of this weekend's @atainational and @gd_artroom workshops on process art and sketchbooking in the classroom.

This is one of my recent sketchbooks where I organised all my pencil portraits & notes about Claude Monet and his friends, family & teachers. I've started my next one on Édouard Manet too and I'll be chatting to the art teachers on Saturday about the Leaving Certificate Visual Studies exam and sample essays 💛

Part 2 Following on from yesterday's post where I introduced myself, today I want to create the link between process art and how it can help with sketchbooking in a classroom setting (early learning, primary and post primary) This is what I will be discussing at the ATAI workshops on Saturday 💛
Link to tickets is in bio @atainational

Over the years, I found that some of my students needed a break from the drawing/design element that every project encounters so I've researched and practised lots of process art activities that lead back to the sketchbook. I created stations that are easy to set up at the side of a classroom so students can take turns experimenting with a variety of satisfying tools and quirky bits.

Pre-planning and structure are vital for this, though, and I've a list of about 40 fun activities that need minimum instruction and maintenance and once the students are given a short demonstration, they can work away quietly by themselves. Obviously, only one or two stations would be used in a given class and they can be rotated daily/weekly to suit the students' votes.

For me it's a win, win situation. I'm happy that they're happy and there's less disruption, less stress and overall a much calmer and more productive environment. The projects progress in a student led way and that's perfect.

The videos show simple gel plate printing which is very quick and easy to set up and clean up after. Then I show my sketchbooks where the process art is given a home and can be adapted to fit in with any theme 💛
