These are good friends Yasser & Zarek Yussif, chefs and restaurateur owners of Pescadero 62 back home in Baja California Sur.

When they learned we’d be traveling to the Iberian Peninsula this summer, they encouraged us to visit two of their favorite restaurants. So, we did.

In fact, our brief 2-day visits to Barcelona and Madrid - bookending our week in Portugal - were planned specifically to dine at Barceloneta 11 days ago and Casa Lucio last night. Both were fantastic culinary experiences.

They call him The Birdman and he plays his quirky barrel organ on our street here in Porto. Turn up your volume and note how he prompts his pet chicken to add clucks to the tune. taken in Rua das Flores (Porto) by @gdgordon3

For the chunk of you here who share in our joy of hops & barley, it’s a thrill to have indulged today in my 11,000th unique beer, this one from FIRST Craft Beer in Budapest, a beautiful 12% ABV barrel-aged barleywine blended with bourbon whisky barrel-aged Imperial Stout with walnuts and pecans. Our favorite granddaughters kicked off their Cle Elum-Roslyn HS soccer season with a 4-1 win yesterday with senior Ava scoring the first goal. Congrats, Ava and freshman Cora.
3 weeks and we’ll be watching live.

Flashing back 3 days ago to our last full day in Salzburg.

Our last meal in Munich did a number on me, so we really only had one day of activity in the Austrian Alps, and even that was limited.

The highlight was the Hohensalzburg Fortress! Absolutely incredible. That Festungsberg hill's earliest use for protection and defense dates back to the 5th century BCE Celts, construction of the fortress itself beginning in 1077. I could have spent hours up there.

And we can't forget Sewickley!
Another wonderful side trip.
Who knew Pittsburgh had such awesome wander stops.
Great coffee in Carnegie, then haircuts, and an incredible late lunch at Mediterra Cafe.
