This terrible rebrand was a major influence behind me making Design Canada. The lack of care shown toward an absolute gem inspired me to tell Canadians why design, and these logos, matter.

Part II: The final chapter. I spent years trying to understand the story behind Canada’s flag.

What I discovered wasn’t just how it was designed, but the remarkable character of the man who drew the maple leaf.

Jacques St. Cyr never sought recognition. To him, the flag didn’t belong to a designer. It belonged to all of us.

Maybe that’s why the symbol has endured.

Solo running is my favourite way to explore a new place. I love the pace and being able to divert from my route at any moment.

Yesterday I explored Dalt Vila, Ibiza’s 16th-century fortified old town, built to defend the island from pirates.

Maybe it was the heat, maybe post-tourist season, maybe ~15k people were hungover from Anyma, but it was completely empty. Felt like I had the whole place to myself. ✨
