Lance LaMotte who is an interventional cardiologist. Today I had the opportunity to shadow him at 3 different locations Our lady of the lake medical center, Baton Rouge General medical center, & Baton Rouge cardiology clinic.

At Our lady of the lake I got to see Dr. LaMotte perform a watchman procedure. The watchman procedure is a minimally invasive catheter-based procedure that seals off the left atrial appendage (LAA) of the heart to prevent blood clots from forming and traveling to the brain, potentially causing a stroke. taken in Baton Rouge General Medical Center by @geaux_dee1

Man dj the past day has been a hard time for me and others. I have known you since we first started with community league football. The times we had at East Fel being water boys till now you have always had a special place in my heart. The time I heard what happened I bust out in tears😭. The times at lunch when I used to bring Doritos and you used to say “Aye Dee give me some” I just used to give you the whole bag. That Monday before you went on to be with Jesus we were talking about the saints getting that win. Man this one is hard for me and everyone who knew you, you will always be known as a happy and loving spirit ❤️. God has called you to be one of his angels🕊. I know you are watching over us and covering us with your wings. I just wanna say fly high my brother get your rest and we will all see you when we meet again in heaven 🕊🤞🏽🏈🤍 #lldj💔🥺😭🕊 by @geaux_dee1

On yesterday, I was able to Shadow @docmax08. Dr. Madhere is a cardiothoracic anesthesiologists
at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Not only is he a doctor, he is also an author and a mentor. He has been added to my list of Mentors because of his great success in life. He is making a way not only for me but for other African American young men and women. I thank you Dr. Madhere for allowing me to come in with yesterday and shadow🖤. #iamblackhistory #iamblackexcellence taken in Our Lady Of The Lake Regional Medical Center by @geaux_dee1

La’Darrius Devonte Irvin is our October 2025 Scholarship Winner. La’Darrius embodies perseverance, leadership, and purpose. As a student at Southern University studying biology, he balances the demanding roles of collegiate football coach and volunteer firefighter—all while pursuing his dream of becoming a cardiologist. Motivated by his family’s history of heart disease, La’Darrius is determined to use his future in medicine to heal and serve others. His additional drive has come from shadowing Dr Madhere in the operating room. Per his words, “shadowing people such as Dr Madhere & Dr Lamotte has been nothing but a thrilling experience. Knowing these two men has really been an inspiration to me because, it shows me that someone who had similar dreams and goals as me, can achieve anything they put their mind too. I will never forget the support, kindness, and wisdom they have instilled in me to always persevere and to achieve my goals.” His journey reflects the spirit of resilience and faith that defines the Pulse of Perseverance—showing that through hard work, service, and consistency, anything is possible.
