We live in a world more connected than ever, so why does genuine connection feel harder to recognise?

Geeta Yerra’s (@geetay21) practice sits with this contradiction, exploring how technology, identity, and social performance shape the way we relate to one another.

A RAD100 selected artist whose ongoing series, Connectedness, questions the difference between appearing connected and truly being so.✨

The new week started well for me.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that I have been represented by Gallery Garza and Garza.

Mr. Jorge Garza the founder of the Gallery said they’re looking to represent very tightly curated small set of artists in their Online Art Gallery and I was quite surprised to see the same thing, Pace Gallery said the other day(2nd pic)

Thank you @artgallerygg 😊🙏

Geeta Yerra | Breaking the code - Seduction here isn’t about sexuality, it’s about awakening, reviving, reminding the patient he’s still human. Somewhere in the quiet, the nurse strikes a chord and the beast within begins to stir.

I’m asking what does care look like when the world becomes mechanical? And how far must a human go to remain relevant, to connect, to matter? The nurse isn’t just preserving her job, she’s preserving the soul of caregiving.

World Mental Health Day was just last week. I recall a few years ago I made a number of paintings for mental health, telling myself and others, through my art, to never give up.

“Let Out the Inner Child” is one of them.

May the child in you stay with you always. Never diminished, never dead.

Creativity thrives when the inner child is fed well, and the inner child feeds on a positive environment. When you need a shortcut, spend time with kids, pets or sport. The connection is instant.

We are reachable all the time. One message, one follow, one click. And still, real connection feels harder than ever.

There was a time I was broken. The only way I knew to go about it was to hang around energetic, good people. High achievers who spread positivity. Even when I was in the dark, I never gave up. I knew I was in a difficult phase, and I fought each day by staying close to positive people.

To the people whose presence infused positivity into my life when I had little of my own, I give my gratitude by heart. There was no other intention of any sort. Just one human thanking another.

No, it’s not a thanksgiving post, just the day reminded me of the phase.

When did you last connect with someone who had nothing to offer you, someone who was struggling, or whose inner child was buried deep inside?

Friday thought: where are the girls?

Canada, 2006. My first trip abroad.

A group of couples had come out for an evening of bowling. An old man, well past seventy, called out, “Where are the girls?”

I waited for some young women to walk in. Instead, a few old women came down, laughing, ready to play.

Years later, on a golf course at home, a man a generation older asked me, “Geeta, have you crossed 40?” I said yes. “Oh, then you are also buddhi (old woman).”

Same age question. Two very different answers.

This painting comes from the same Canada memory.

At Niagara Falls, a couple in their late seventies arrived on their own, and the man said, “Honey, let’s get a picture in front of the falls.” Then they posed for it, so lovingly.

I had seen young couples in India strike all kinds of poses for photos.

The old couples I knew were the temple going kind.

This was an eye opener.

I don’t take sides. I just notice.

Every culture has its own way of seeing love and age, and noticing the difference is one of the quiet delights of travel.

These days, when I call my friends here “girls,” they look surprised, or go silent. They are mothers of girls, after all.

Happy Friday. Go call someone “the girls” this weekend.

Foreigners Everywhere: The Old Couple Oil on Linen, 143 x 89 cm, 2024 , listed on Saatchi Art, link in the bio.

Noodling’ is the latest from the ‘Wife’ series and it is a universal act.

A naughty, loving wife pokes, teases and tests, not knowing that she is sometimes a big challenge.

It starts with fun intentions, but it does not always end in a good experience.

I don’t portray real people or real likenesses because I feel that is a different expertise, and it doesn’t interest me.

But the figures I draw represent a moment or a thought, and I’m interested more in depicting a moment rather than any particular humans.

Underneath this sits a larger shift.

In traditional India, a husband, the head of the family, is respected and never questioned about his intentions or actions.

In present India, that line is blurred. Women are more independent and free thinkers. They question and challenge norms and opinions.

Does this lead to more harmony in the family, or does it cause disruption?

Recognise the moment. The fun begins, the mood is read, and the outcome is uncertain.

The viewer may leave with the question, not a verdict.

The painting does not judge the wife or the husband. It records the act.

If you are ready for this truth, then you are ready to say yes and call her ‘wifey.’

The audience cried foul.
The artist listened.

When I painted this series on WIFE, many people were upset with me.

I felt the need to do it anyway.

Some asked, why is she not eating?

Have Some More, oil on linen, 94 x 124 cm

I have changed the title of this painting from My Precious 2 to ‘Have Some More’.

Gone are the days when the husband ate first and the wife ate after. That order has changed.

So what is the new order? If he doesnt catch up in time, she still serves him the food, with a full stomach.

I shared this series after a long time, and while sharing it, a new idea hit me and nudged me to paint.

A sequel is on its way, so watch this space.

Hint: what does she do while serving food with love?

‘Have Some More’ is listed for sale only on Saatchi Art. Link in the bio.

This series made in 2023 came from reflecting on a Sanskrit verse that describes the qualities of a good wife.

I liked doing this series of paintings because the qualities described are not difficult to emulate for someone in love.

It can work as a reference point for anyone who wants a happy married life. Is that a big ask? Of course not.

These qualities are basic to any relationship, foundational bricks to build on.

“Lean on Me”, 124 x 93 cm is the wife as a friend, carrying the weight with you.

“My Precious” 92 x 122 cm is the gratitude and well-being that comes from being loved.

“My Precious 2”, 94 x 125 cm is the mother in every wife, the one who feeds and arranges for the home.

“Little Pleasures”, 92 x 122 cm is the small joy of an ordinary afternoon spent well together.

This series of paintings make a good gift for a couple in love, a newly wed couple, or a family already living in harmony, as a daily reminder.

“Lean on Me” can go anywhere in the house or in the foyer.

“My Precious” suits the living room.

“My Precious 2” suits the dining room.

“Little Pleasures” suits the bedroom.

A collector couple can acquire all four and place one in each room.

These little acts of love and care will stay relevant as long as humanity exists, because they are what make us human.

A happy home is the smallest foundational unit. Done well, it builds a happy world.

Festival and wedding season is upon us. Great as thoughtful gifts.

Collect the four paintings listed and available only on Saatchi art. Link in the bio.

Please feel free to dm if you have any questions.

Once upon a time, I used to take tuitions from art school teachers and students.

My art teacher would just mark an abrupt colour onto the painting, and I would say, “Why did you do that? Why can’t I know why this mark came here, why this colour is here?”

He would just smile and say, “It will happen. It will come naturally. You will feel it when it happens.”

After so many years, I understand what he meant, and I enjoy that feeling now.

Every artist revels in that feeling when they transcend. The hand just goes there, and the knowledge, the expertise, the taste come into their own signature through that hand.

It all just happens, and when it’s happening, those are the best moments for an artist.

In every creative field, there comes a stage where the person is no longer connected to their physical surroundings. They are performing in a trance, and that is the moment they connect to the viewer, to the audience, on a metaphysical plane.

This is “Lean on Me,” the first painting in my ‘Wife’ series. This is listed only on Saatchi Art, link is in the bio.

This could be the wife, companion or the one person in this world who truly understands you and is a friend in true sense.

The colors and concept just happened and I revelled in the creation of this painting.

Happy Weekend Everyone 👍

There is an exhibition going on with the title Inheritors of the Earth by @knmaindia and so I thought It’s right time to share Inheritors of the Earth I did in the spring of 2025.

I took the picture on my terrace in the morning and so the audio is natural birds and other distraction.

I love German shepherd dogs, a bull and cow inheriting the Earth, some greenery around and robot dog.

When I see my journey as an artist I feel happy that slowly I started creating happy art without any agenda.

When I do happy art I become a happy soul.🥰

It’s listed on my website geetay.com

Happy New Week Everyone!

The event was valuable, the reflection over the event is what this post is about. The observation is purely based on my understanding.

Instagram restrictions are the reason I have made the carousel, every minute spent understanding Artist as ethnographer was worth it.

I liked the two lady panelists so much for their work in this field, personal favourites!
