More than a precious material, silver has lived alongside people for centuries.

Held. Shared. Passed down.
Brought to the table and made part of our rituals.

A new season arrives

May work become intelligent,
beauty through our hands,
and the right people arrive
by recognition.

May what we make carry light
and travel further than imagined. by @gem.alf

Located in Çukurcuma, Istanbul’s antiques and design quarter, AD visits the gallery of Turkish designer and collector Gem Alf (@gem.alf) — a space that houses both his curatorial practice and a deeply personal archive.

At the link in bio, meet the new generation of creatives across the Middle East who are redefining what it means to collect.

Last looks from the gallery before the new season. It all changes so quickly.. and before we have time to photograph it, it is gone.

Over the years, we have created so many unexpected harmonies. Want to share a short series before holidays.. by @gem.alf

From Paris to Patmos

Tonight, it plays again..

This Érard piano was made in Paris in 1899.
Its first owner was Pauline Viardot-García,
and it stayed with her at 243 Boulevard Saint-Germain until 1906.

It then went to the home of architect Georges Paul Chedanne in Paris..

After that, we lose track of it for quite a while.

It appeared again at an auction near Bayeux in 1997–98. Albert-Jean Antonelli bought it and later gifted to the municipality of Patmos.

In 1998, it arrived on the island.

After many years of community life, it needed some love. It went to Rome in 2024, for a sensitive restoration by piano technician Mauro Buccitti.
