By FAR one of my favourite local discoveries! How gorgeous is this?! An honesty box with the most beautiful bunches of fresh seasonal locally grown flowers. I hadn’t mentioned previously but my mum passed away just as we were moving out to the house, yesterday we buried her ashes, I laid some flowers from the house and some flowers from the last bunches I picked up here last week and on the way home I decided to swing by and grab some fresh ones because spring flowers especially were her favourite. I was surprised and thrilled to see sweetpea in the bunches, her dad used to grow them and bring them for her when he visited, then she grew them and now my sister does. When she was in hospice there was constantly a vase of sweetpea by her bed so they’re incredibly significant for me. It felt like a little nod from her after an emotional day.
The workshop we attended a while back where we learned about the carbon footprint left when buying imported flowers has stuck with me! (Thanks @bigskyflowers 😂😂) and I just can’t bring myself to buy them any more so I asked where I could get locally grown flowers and this was the answer I was given @_flowersbyizzy_ has this gorgeous little set up on the mullingar road in collinstown just up the road so I get to remember mum the way that makes me smile AND not feel guilty about buying imported flowers. #shoplocal #buylocal #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocal #irish #ireland #flowers #freshflowerbouquet by @geminifarmer

We spent a good bit of yesterday afternoon at O’Mearas Garden Centre yesterday, LOOK at those colours!! 😍 I am just the tag along and swooner of this area of planning for the house, @geminifarmer is the resident green thumb around our place, we’ve talked about our goth garden and the various things we’d love to grow, some for food, some because they’re aesthetically gorgeous and some medicinal and some natural dyes, I can’t wait for this time next year when everything’s growing and in bloom! by @geminifarmer

Taking a moment to appreciate the beauty and labour and sweet gesture from @bigskyflowers thank you so so much, how wonderful and unexpected to find such welcoming people so close when we felt we were moving so far away! Also Westmeath seems to be STEEPED in creatives! This beautiful ceramic piece is by @otherworldceramics, the serene face and gorgeous details are sublime! We’ve been gathering bits and pieces from local artists for the house and there is so much to choose from! Prints from @studiobleuvintage, fresh flowers from @bigskyflowers, antiques and thrifted treasures from the many many charity shops…..we’re spoiled for choice! by @geminifarmer
