🌟 We are delighted to present the work of new PSSA Member Gemma Holzer.Gemma Holzer (b. 1996) is a Dutch/American artist based in London. Born in Mill Valley, California. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Painting in 2025 and holds a BA in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School (2019). Holzer has been working full time as an artist since completing her undergraduate studies and has exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions internationally, including presentations in London, New York, Los Angeles, Taipei, and Shanghai, and has been featured in Vogue, Tatler, and Harper’s Bazaar. Holzer operates across the fields of sculpture and painting, working between oil, acrylic, steel and ceramics. Her work depicts hybrid, otherworldly figures set within sparse, ambiguous environments. The polished yet unstable shapes hover between vessel, idol, and creature. Drawing on digital culture and ancient imagery, Holzer’s practice warps and subverts ideas of identity and presence. Her layered surfaces and diverse materials challenge viewers to reconsider the boundaries between the organic and the constructed, myth and technology, past and present.Her work combines personal nostalgia with reimagined histories. Pieces evoke ancient cultures, featuring strange idols inhabiting ambiguous, nondescript spaces. This is Gemma Holzer@gemma.holzer Gemma is a visual artist currently based in London. Her work mixes personal nostalgia and reimagined histories, featuring strange creatures inhabiting nondescript spaces and alluding to artefacts involved in funerary practices, vessels that hold long forgotten memories.Drawing inspiration from standing stones and Neolithic sites, she brings ancient imagery into contrast with newly manufactured representations, pulling past and present together. In her cut-out paintings, isolated figures are suspended by chains within steel frameworks, exploring physical discomfort, emotional strain, and disconnection.
