A Closer Look at Sapelli 🌳

Look closely at Sapelli boards and you will notice that the grain is never quite the same.

Natural colour variations, flowing lines and different grain patterns give each piece its own appearance. These details become easier to appreciate when you see the timber being processed rather than simply looking at a finished stack.

A small glimpse into our everyday work with African hardwoods.

🌳 Have You Worked With Dabema Before?

In the African timber business, everyone knows some familiar species. But there are other hardwoods worth taking a closer look at, too.

Dabema, also known in some markets as Dahoma, is one of them.

When evaluating a timber species, I would look beyond its name and ask a few practical questions:

🪵 Does it suit the intended application?
📏 Are the available dimensions right for the job?
🔍 Is the quality suitable for the buyer's requirements?
📦 Can the supply meet the needs of the business?

Not every species suits every project. The key is finding the right match between the timber and the customer's needs.

I'm curious — have you bought or processed Dabema before? What do you mainly use it for?

🌳 MOVINGUI TIMBER: Which Markets Should Be Looking Closer?

Movingui is an African hardwood worth exploring for buyers looking to diversify their timber range.

But where is the opportunity?

🌏 **Asia:** Importers and hardwood distributors looking to expand their African timber portfolio may find Movingui worth investigating.

🌍 **The Middle East:** Existing trade flows from Cameroon to markets such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE provide a starting point for further market research.

🌎 **Europe and Latin America:** Specialist timber importers and manufacturers may also be worth approaching, depending on their product requirements.

Potential applications include furniture components, doors, interior joinery and decorative woodwork, depending on the grade, dimensions and processing requirements.

Of course, a country appearing in trade records does not automatically make it a major Movingui market. The real opportunity lies in identifying buyers with suitable applications and repeat purchasing needs.

**If you import African hardwood, would you consider adding Movingui to your product range? Which market do you think has the most potential?**

At YUEYOU WOOD, we supply African timber, logs and veneer to international markets.

🌳 IROKO: AD or KD — Which One Would You Choose?

Two drying methods. Different production needs.

🌿 **AD Iroko**
✔️ May suit buyers who manage further drying themselves
✔️ Useful when the buyer's production plan allows for additional seasoning

🔥 **KD Iroko**
✔️ Drying can be controlled towards a target moisture content
✔️ May suit manufacturing processes with specific moisture requirements

Remember: the right choice depends on the actual moisture content, intended use and destination conditions — not just the AD or KD label.

👇 Tell us your choice: AD or KD? And which market are you buying for?

A Good Sample Is Not the Whole Story!

When buying African hardwood in volume, don't focus only on the best-looking boards.

Here are 4 things worth checking before placing an order:

📏 **Dimensions** — Are thickness, width and length consistent with your requirements?

🔍 **Quality** — Are natural defects within your agreed limits?

🪵 **Batch consistency** — Does the overall shipment meet your expectations, not just a few selected boards?

📦 **Usable material** — Will the timber suit your cutting plan and final application?

Natural wood always has variations. The important thing is to understand them before purchasing and agree on the right specifications with your supplier.

At YUEYOU WOOD, we supply African timber, logs and veneer to international markets.

AD or KD — which one would you pick for Sapelli? 🌳

Some buyers prefer AD timber because they have their own drying facilities. Others prefer KD timber because moisture control is already part of their purchasing requirements.

There isn't one answer for every buyer. It depends on how the timber will be processed and what the finished product needs.

I'm curious — **if you were buying Sapelli today, would you go for AD or KD?**

Thinking of using Okoume outdoors? 🌦️

Before choosing the timber, consider where it will be used.

🌧️ Frequent rain and moisture exposure
☀️ Direct sunlight and changing weather
🪵 Ground contact and drainage
🛡️ Protective coatings and ongoing maintenance

Okoume is valued for its lightweight properties and workability, but it is not naturally suited to every outdoor condition. The right protection and application make a real difference.

Choosing timber is not just about the species — it’s about matching the material to the project.

Real work behind African timber. 🚛🌳

Heavy logs. Muddy roads. Trucks working through difficult ground.

This is part of everyday timber operations in Africa, long before the cargo reaches the port.

Getting logs from the sourcing area to the next stage takes more than a truck. It takes people, equipment, planning and coordination.

Every log has a journey before it becomes sawn timber or reaches a customer overseas.

🌍 From African sourcing areas to international timber markets.

Is a cheaper timber always a better buy?

Not necessarily.

When considering Tiama or any alternative African hardwood, the purchase price is only one part of the decision.

If a parcel requires more sorting, produces more unusable offcuts or needs extra processing, the initial saving may not tell the whole story.

On the other hand, if the timber fits the required dimensions, processing method and end use, it may offer a practical option for the right buyer.

That is why I prefer to look at timber from the buyer’s side:

What can the factory actually use?
How well does the material fit the production plan?
Can the supplier meet the requirements again next time?

These questions often reveal more than the quotation alone.

Tiama is one African hardwood worth considering when the specifications and application make sense.
