It might piss you off or feel unfair that @alix_earle makes your yearly salary from just one Instagram story but if you trained for live TV, ran a nonprofit, posted 4x a day, and still showed up hot and happy, you’d be paid like that too. The first time I was the only woman in the room was during my first tech internship.

I’d been recruited out of Grace Hopper, surrounded by hundreds of women landing jobs at tech companies, so I thought the whole “women in tech” thing was an outdated DEI narrative that didn’t really exist anymore.

Then I walked into my first day on the job and realized I was the only woman. Not just on my team, but on my entire floor. Every engineer, product manager, designer, and project manager was a man.

It was one of the most shocking, uncomfortable, and isolating moments of my life. That summer, I learned a lot about what not to do.

And over the next 10 years in tech, through different roles, events, conferences, and happy hours, I learned how to walk into those rooms differently.

Because being the only woman in the room doesn’t mean you don’t belong there. It means you have an opportunity to set the tone for every woman who walks in after you.

So walk in with confidence. Speak up even if your voice shakes. And never shrink yourself to fit the room. You might be the missing perspective your team needed this entire time.

I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time around Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, many millionaires and even a few billionaires. From growing up with their kids at one of the most expensive private schools in the Bay to actually hanging out with them as an adult, I’ve always been fascinated by how they think.

The way they make decisions, build habits, and optimize their lives, I started studying it years ago so I could apply it to my own life. So when I saw this trend on my FYP, I had to give it my own spin 😂
