Children shouldn’t just be prepared for the future, they should have permission to invent it.

There is no innovation without experimentation, and there is no experimentation without getting things wrong.

Generation Evolve will be a place where a child can say, “I’ve got an idea…” and our response is, “Go and see if you can make it work.”

A place where children have permission to imagine themselves as inventors, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists, astronauts and creators, not someday, but in the moment.

They’ll build things, break things, question & test ideas and solve real problems. Some ideas will work and plenty won’t.

Innovation rarely begins with knowing the answer, it begins with the curiosity and confidence to ask, “What if…?”

And as they create, we want them thinking beyond themselves too:
Does this help people?
Does it protect our planet?
Does it make something better?

We’re not simply educating children for a world they will inherit.

We want to give them the agency to shape it.

Sport and movement has always been about so much more than competition. It teaches our children how to win with grace and perhaps more importantly, how to lose with humility, how to get back up, how to communicate when the pressure is on and how to be part of something bigger than themselves.

It also teaches them when to lead and when to let someone else lead, how to celebrate somebody else’s success and the importance of health and wellbeing.

It builds resilience, discipline, courage, camaraderie and that wonderfully useful quality in life, tenacity.

At Generation Evolve, sport, movement and physical development won’t be something squeezed into the edges of the curriculum.

Developing the whole child means developing healthy minds, healthy bodies and character.
Because one day when the pitch, court, dance studio or playing field disappears the person our children became while they were on it goes with them.

We can’t build resilience for our children by removing every obstacle from their path.

To discover the thing our kids thought they couldn’t do, sometimes they need to wobble, get stuck, feel unsure and attempt to work something out for themselves- then realise they actually can do the thing.

As parents, our instinct is often to reach out and catch them, in the past I know mine has been, however, some of the most important confidence our children develop, comes from those moments when we don’t do step in and do it for them.

Let them fail forward fast and be there to embrace the wins post the failures.

At Gen Evolve, physical challenge, adventure and calculated risk will be part of the learning journey, developing the whole child means challenging minds & bodies.

Resilience isn’t something we can teach from a worksheet, it’s something children build by experiencing themselves overcoming things.

One of the gifts we can give a child is the quiet belief: I can work this out by myself.

Our children need to express curiosity, have the freedom to play and experiment from their imagination.

Some of the most important learning in childhood includes muddy hands, endless questions, making things, breaking things, trying again, negotiating with other children and becoming completely absorbed in an idea.

Play sits at the heart of our early years curriculum at Generation Evolve and creativity runs all through.

Like Finland, where early childhood education places a strong emphasis on play, we want to protect those precious years when curiosity is instinctive and the world is one enormous playground.

Inside learning through play there’s a natural foundation of all education via biology, chemistry, creativity, communication, problem-solving, resilience and collaboration happening.

We don’t need to prepare children for academia quite so quickly, we believe let children be.

There is no playbook.

Helping our children navigate the world and the future landscape they’re heading into, is part of our remit as parents.

During the highly neuroplastic teenage years, young people will make mistakes. They’ll push boundaries, test themselves, us and sometimes the system around them.

Too often, education can feel quick to make a child walk the plank when what they really need are adults who will let them stand at the helm, help them adjust their sails and keep pointing them towards their North Star.

At Gen Evolve, we’re making learning personal and building the skills young people will need for life: courage, confidence, communication, teamwork, the ability to take calculated risks and the judgement to change course when something isn’t working.

Getting things wrong is part of life, learning how to navigate when through the storms builds resilience capability and character.

As parents and educators we know learning to read begins long before a child can say or read a single word.

UK research from BookTrust found that 66% of children introduced to shared reading in their first year were still being read to every day at ages 5–7, compared with 49% who started later.

The US Academy of Pediatrics recommends reading with children from birth, and US research has found associations between shared reading at just 2–3 months old with activity in areas of the developing brain involved in language.

But for me, books give our children something even bigger than literacy. They give them other worlds to explore using their imagination.

They ask more questions a develop a lifelong curiosity about everything beyond the page.

In an age when almost any answer can be delivered by a screen in seconds, we want to raise children who still want to turn the page.

A love of reading helps children be hungry to discover more.

What do you think?

When we were children we used to play ‘dangerously safe’, today, in trying to make childhood safer and easier, we’ve inadvertently removed some of the experiences that help our children discover just how capable they are.

Children want to be mini adult like ..they emulate mothers & fathers, making, baking, creating or work something out when there isn’t an adult immediately providing the answer.

How many of our young children have outdoor skills which will serve them for life ..and ones they can pass onto their children?

These things might sound rather old fashioned in a world of AI and technology, but that’s precisely why they matter.

At Gen Evolve we want our young people to be able to move confidently between both worlds.

To master and stay above the technology and AI stack, but also understand the physical world around them. To know how to ask for help, but also have the confidence to have a go themselves.

Independence doesn’t suddenly arrive at 18.

We build it, one experience at a time.

Music is incredibly important to every child’s development- even in utero playing Mozart builds synapses. Music helps with regulation, pattern recognition and a music foundation helps with maths.

I love it when you see children banging on pots and pans or babies shaking maracas… because children understand rhythm before they understand words.

Music isn’t simply about learning an instrument. It’s confidence, listening, timing, discipline, collaboration and having the courage to be heard and it connects individuals and communities globally.

Not every child finds their confidence through academics. Sometimes it starts behind a drum kit, on a stage, on a sports field, building something with their hands or discovering that one thing that suddenly makes them think…

“I’m actually good at this.”

Education is an exploratory journey and children from all backgrounds should have far more opportunities for those moments.

Because once a young person starts believing in what they can do, it’s amazing what can follow.

When was it decided that education should be about knowing where you’re going before you’ve really had the chance to discover who you are?

We ask children what they want to be when they grow up, then gradually funnel them towards subjects, qualifications and pathways, often before they’ve had enough experience of the world to know what might light them up.

At Generation Evolve we want to give young people more opportunities to find that out.

To try things, explore, meet people they wouldn’t ordinarily meet, go places, make and build things.

We want to encourage them to fail forward fast - get things wrong and in doing so discover their unexpected strengths.

Because the ‘prepare yourself to pass through a system’ education is not for today’s world -
education should help you discover who you are, what you’re capable of and where you might want to go next.

The Expedition of Self. 🌍
