OBSTACLE COURSE TRAINING! Part 1- Students over the past few years. I've been actively engaged in the sport of Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) by competing at the Elite and World Championship level, volunteering, training myself for 10 years and training and many students for 8 years and counting. These are some of my most recent students in 1-1s and classes. Here @korumovementstudio I train my students to master basic obstacles which make movement so enjoyable. These include but are not limited to, climbs, crawls, carries, balancing, jumping, pushing, pulling, lifting, throwing, vaulting, swinging and so much more. Moving thru and around obstacles has many applications practically, physically and mentally to life. You will learn how to creatively adapt to the balances of fitness and of life. You will see obstacles physically and otherwise as the invitation to a stronger life, free from fear or limitation. It feels incredible to flow through a course or workout with smoothness and stamina. Come train with me and the team at KORU! I also train students the Aquetong Spring Park, Flemington Mine Brook Park and Doylestown Central Park where there are great trails and obstacle opportunities! Message me for more information on our classes, 1-1s with me or our other coaches and community workshops and hikes! Check out my first OCR, Parkour and Ninja Warrior gym I ever worked at, and see some of the community and team that helped shape my work today. I'm the guy with the natural wavy dreadlocks 🤣 ➡️@warriorgyms #GENEMOVES #EXPLORE #OBSTACLECOURSE #TEAM #COMMUNITY by @gene.moves.method

Part 2. I love OBSTACLE COURSES because there are truly infinite obstacles to play with as OPPORTUNITIES!It is an adventure to train with intention and to ensure an enriching experience in obstacle course training but also racing. I relish a challenge of speed, control, strength, endurance and diverse skills to master, and the racing part keeps me going with passionate purpose. Although I will be in Basic Training this late August to about February and therefore unavailable for the annual OCR World Championships (5 of which I have attended since its inauguration in 2014) I continue to set obstacle races on my horizon. I encourage you to look at the world as your playground and to sign up and or volunteer at an Obstacle race near you. Do it alone and meet new people or bring friends and challenge them to a new adventure! Monkey on! 🐒🦍🦧🧗🏼‍♂️#GENEMOVES #OCR #THEOBSTACLEISTHEWAY #OBSTACLECOURSE #EXPLORE by @gene.moves.method

Movement 5: HANG for time. Choose Gymnastic rings or Bar. Hang from bar or rings, hang as long as you can with one or two hands. Switching hands is not necessary but encouraged if you can briefly hang on one arm to relax the other. 1 attempt. Recommended Practice: Hanging from a bar with feet supported or unsupported will help. The goal is endurance so do sets of 30-60seconds with a 2 minute rest in between. If you are good hanging from two hands, try one hand to shake out the tension and switch as you get tired in the Strength Games. The 1st ever KORU Strength Games will take place May 3rd 9-11 AM at KORU Movement Studio in New Hope! Movement 3: MED BALL UP & over for reps Choose 50, 90, or 150 pounds. Lift the medicine ball to the bar height and toss over to other side, moving to other side and repeat for max reps in 60 seconds. 1 attempt. Recommended Practice: Do 2-3x 90 second working set of Medicine Ball cleans or dumbbell clean with a press if you don’t have a medball. Aim for a lighter to moderate intensity pace, and choose a weight lighter than your ideal competition weight. These movements will help prepare your posterior chain to lift up and press over the yoke obstacle. Movement 2: YOKE CARRY for distance. Choose 100 pound safety bar, 200 pound, or 400 pound yoke. Lifting the yoke or safety bar on shoulders, carry the bar without touching ground for max distance. 1 attempt. Recommended Practice: Even without a bar, doing any kind of shoulder or farmer’s carry will help condition you to carry a safety squat barbell or yoke bar. Movement 1: Bottoms up KB SHOULDER PRESS for reps. Choose 18, 35 or 70 pound kettlebell. Gripping Kettlebell by the ball while the bottom faces up, press max reps on each shoulder with full elbow extension at top, and full elbow flexion at bottom. Participants have 60 seconds each side, to complete max reps for the right AND left arm. 1 attempt. Recommended Practice: Do this movement on your own with this grip on a lighter kettlebell than what you aim to do so you can build up reps and form. If you only have dumbbells or weight plates you can also balance them vertically and practice with those. The 1st ever KORU Strength Games will take place May 3rd 9-11 AM at KORU Movement Studio in New Hope!
