No grab bars by the toilet? 🚽👀

Here’s a bathroom setup you may not have thought about!

A walker might look secure around the toilet, but it can still shift or tip when sitting or standing. For safer support, consider properly installed grab bars or toilet safety rails.

💙 Safety and independence should always go hand in hand!

📌 Save and share with someone who could use more bathroom safety tips!

💬 QUESTION: What’s one bathroom challenge you wish someone had a solution for? Let me know below! 👇

That neck pillow might be making your elderly parent’s neck pain WORSE!

Those C-shaped neck pillows may look comfortable, but they aren’t always providing the support you think they are.

When sitting upright, these pillows can push the head forward, forcing the chin toward the chest.

Over time, this poor positioning can contribute to:

❌ Tight, overworked neck muscles
❌ Neck and shoulder pain
❌ Pain between the shoulder blades
❌ Increased muscle fatigue
❌ Forward head posture and rounded shoulders

I see this frequently with older adults who complain of neck pain, and one of the first things I look at is how they’re supporting their head while sitting.

Remember: Soft doesn’t always mean supportive!

❤️ SAVE this video and SHARE it with someone caring for an aging parent. A simple positioning change could make a big difference in their comfort.

Are you using your hands to lift your leg into the car?

Getting in and out of the car shouldn’t feel like such a struggle. But when your hip muscles are weak or your leg is difficult to lift, even simple everyday movements can become frustrating.

The good news? You can work on improving your leg strength, mobility, and control with these 4 exercises! 💪

Here’s the progression:

1️⃣ Seated marching – Start building strength while sitting.

2️⃣ Seated leg lifts over a water bottle – Challenge your ability to lift and control your leg.

3️⃣ Standing marching – Practice lifting your legs while standing.

4️⃣ Standing leg lifts over a water bottle – Progress to a more challenging movement that combines strength, control, and balance.

✅ Start with what you can comfortably do and progress at your own pace. Use support when standing if needed.

The goal isn’t just stronger legs. It’s making everyday activities like getting into the car feel easier and more manageable.

💾 SAVE this video so you can practice these exercises later.

📲 SHARE it with a friend or family member who struggles to lift their legs or get in and out of the car. They may find these exercises helpful!

💬 Tell me in the comments: Do you struggle more with lifting your leg into the car or getting out?

The most dangerous thing a caregiver can say during a possible stroke? “Let’s wait and see.” 🚨

A crooked smile. A suddenly weak arm. Words that don’t sound right.

These might seem like small changes, but they could be warning signs of a STROKE.

And here’s what every caregiver needs to understand: You don’t need to see every symptom before taking action.

Remember F.A.S.T. ❤️

F — Face drooping
A — Arm weakness
S — Speech difficulty
T — Time to call 911

Even if the symptoms disappear, it’s still an emergency.

Caregivers, a simple medication mistake could send Mom or Dad to the hospital! 💊

Are they forgetting to take their medications? Taking the same pill twice? Or struggling to keep up with all those prescription bottles?

⚠️ Medication-related problems are a major cause of preventable harm and hospital visits among older adults.

And here’s what every caregiver needs to understand…

Just because Mom or Dad has their medications doesn’t mean they’re taking them correctly!

It’s time to replace the confusion with a SYSTEM. 👇

✅ Use a pharmacist-approved weekly pill organizer.

✅ Set daily phone alarms or medication reminders.

✅ Choose one day each week to organize and review medications.

✅ If memory is becoming an issue, make sure someone is checking that medications are taken correctly.

❤️ Medication management isn’t just about organizing pills. It’s about protecting your parent’s health, maintaining their independence, and helping prevent avoidable hospital visits.

🎥 WATCH this video to learn how a simple medication routine can make a BIG difference!

Nobody talks enough about the caregiver who is silently burning out. 💔

The sleepless nights. The constant worrying. The guilt you feel for even wanting a moment to yourself.

Sometimes a simple walk isn’t about exercise. It’s about finding a little piece of yourself again. ❤️

When your loved one is safe, give yourself permission to breathe.

You deserve care, too.

💬 Caregivers, when was the last time you did something just for YOU?

🪑 Having trouble getting out of a chair? Don’t ignore it!

If standing up from a chair has become more difficult, weakness in your legs may be part of the problem.

The good news? There are exercises that can help you work toward improving your leg strength, stability, and ability to stand up more independently. 💪

In this video, I’m sharing 4 exercises that can help you build the strength needed to get up from a chair with greater ease and confidence.

✅ HERE’S HOW TO GET STARTED:

🔹 Start small: If you’re experiencing weakness, begin with 5–10 repetitions of each exercise, as tolerated.

🔹 Stay consistent: Aim to perform these exercises 1–2 times a day, as long as you can do them safely and comfortably.

🔹 Progress gradually: As your strength, endurance, and control improve, you can work toward 20 repetitions or more, depending on your ability.

🔹 Don’t struggle alone: If you’re having difficulty performing these exercises, aren’t seeing progress, or cannot perform them safely on your own, consult a physical therapist. A physical therapist can evaluate your strength, identify what’s making standing difficult, and modify the exercises to fit your individual needs.

⚠️ Remember: Never force an exercise or push through pain. Use appropriate support when needed, and seek professional guidance if you feel unsteady or unsafe.

❤️ Your goal isn’t to do everything perfectly. It’s to build strength safely, one repetition at a time.

📌 SAVE this video so you can practice these exercises again.

📲 SHARE it with someone who struggles to get out of a chair and could benefit from a little extra guidance.

💬 Tell me in the comments: Is getting out of a chair becoming more difficult for you or someone you care about?

Stiff joints, weak legs, or trouble lifting your legs? A plastic bag on the seat may help you pivot in and out more easily. Try it only when the car is parked, with steady support, and follow your therapist’s guidance if you’re at risk of falling.

Are your joints getting stiffer as you age? Don’t overlook these simple movements!

As we get older, joint stiffness and muscle tightness can make everyday activities more challenging. That’s why maintaining your range of motion is so important!

Think about how often you use your hands, elbows, and shoulders to get dressed, reach for something, brush your hair, or complete everyday tasks.

🙌 Movement matters!

In this video, I’m demonstrating gentle range-of-motion exercises to help keep your joints moving within their comfortable limits.

🔢 HOW MANY REPETITIONS?

✅ Start with 10 repetitions of each movement, if comfortable.

✅ If 10 feels like too much, decrease to 5 repetitions or fewer based on your tolerance.

✅ As the movements become easier, you can gradually increase by 5 repetitions (for example, from 10 to 15), as tolerated.

✅ Move slowly and gently. Never force a joint beyond its comfortable range or push through pain.

⚠️ IMPORTANT PRECAUTION:

If your joints cannot move through the motions demonstrated in this video, or you experience pain, significant stiffness, or limited movement, consult your doctor. Ask whether a Physical Therapy (PT) or Occupational Therapy (OT) evaluation is appropriate to fully assess your condition and determine which exercises are safe for your individual needs.

If you have a recent injury, surgery, or specific movement restrictions, follow your healthcare professional’s guidance before attempting these exercises.

💚 Remember: The goal isn’t to move farther than your body allows. It’s to support the movement you have and maintain your ability to perform everyday activities.

📌 SAVE this video to practice these movements when appropriate for you. 💬 Tell me in the comments: Do you notice more stiffness in your fingers, elbows, or shoulders?

Using a walker after surgery? Getting in and out of the shower can be tricky, especially when you’re trying to keep your walker dry!

In this video, I’m demonstrating a backward stepping technique for entering the shower.

✅ Going IN: Lead with your good (non-surgical or less painful) leg first.

✅ Coming OUT: Lead with your surgical or painful leg first.

The goal is to demonstrate a shower transfer while keeping your walker out of the wet area.

⚠️ SAFETY ADVISORY: This technique is not appropriate for everyone. Always follow the advice of your physical therapist, occupational therapist, or healthcare provider before attempting shower transfers. Your surgical precautions, weight-bearing restrictions, balance, and bathroom setup may require a different technique or assistance. Use properly installed grab bars and recommended safety equipment. by @geneekapt

Your walker could be making walking harder than it needs to be!

A walker that’s too high or too low can affect your posture, comfort, and stability.

Here’s a quick way to check:
✅ Stand tall with your arms relaxed at your sides.
✅ The handgrips should line up with your wrist creases.
✅ When holding the grips, your elbows should have a slight bend (about 15–30°).
✅ Make sure all four legs are adjusted correctly and locked into place.

A small adjustment can make a BIG difference! 🙌
