Happy Indigenous Peoples day from the SA Executive board.

The name of our town comes from the Seneca word Gen-nis-he-yo, usually translated as “beautiful valley.” The Seneca, the Onöndowa’ga:’, are one of the six nations of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, known as the Keepers of the Western Door. This valley was their home long before there was a college here.

That history is closer than most of us realize. In 1779, the Sullivan-Clinton Campaign burned Little Beard’s Town, a Seneca village a few miles south of campus, along with its crops and orchards. In 1797, the Treaty of Big Tree was signed right here in Geneseo, and it took nearly all Seneca land west of the Genesee River.

The Seneca didn’t disappear after that. The Seneca Nation and the Tonawanda Seneca Nation are still here in Western New York, governing their own territories and keeping their language and culture alive.

So today, take a minute to learn whose land you walk across on the way to class. Look up the Seneca-Iroquois National Museum in Salamanca, read about the Treaty of Big Tree, or support Indigenous-owned businesses and artists. by @geneseosa

‼️NO RACE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!!!!‼️

Do you like to ski? Do you like to go fast while you do it? Well then the Geneseo Alpine Ski Team may just be the place for you! ⛷️

We’re a competitive alpine ski racing team that enjoys both of those things, whilst also incorporating fun and high amounts of smiles and laughter.

Like I said, you don’t have to have any prior ski racing knowledge, as you’ll learn as we progress through our 5 week season, starting the first week of the spring semester!

We had so much fun this past weekend at Buffalo for our first tournament of the season! We loved seeing all our work from practice in action and how well our rookies caught on to everything!!
