an outtake for “Suit Up”, @voguephilippines Dec 2025/Jan 2026

the coattail lines that would later become Amerikana were my reference point for the look @ilkinkurt graciously allowed me to style for our editorial with @voguephilippines last year. I wanted to highlight the first “suit” imprinted on the collective memory of the free Filipino, iconically, the garb of the National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

break-down: Kuya @jaime_sy, Ian and I drove down to Tanay, Rizal province to go swimming at the waterfalls. I brought my camera along for fun with no intention of capturing Ian. Overwhelmed by the beauty of the spot we had come across, I wanted to “mythologise” the place of the queer in the elements—especially according to Philippine folklore and superstitions. We said “tabi tabi po” (asked the Nature elementals for permission) and baptised Ian as the “baklang diwata ng batis” (queer elemental of the waterfall spring). It felt liberating and sacred to do so and then have it captured on film.
