UTAH RAP SPOTLIGHT: GENO BEATS
@geno_beats

There are producers who make beats — and then there are producers who help define a sound.
Geno Beats is the second kind.

Born in Salt Lake City and raised in Ogden his entire life, Geno got his start in one of the most unexpected ways — making beats on a PlayStation 2 back in ’05/’06 using Music Generator 2 by Funkmaster Flex. By 2009–2010, music stopped being something he did for fun — it became the lane that would change his life.

His passion was first sparked by family — watching his dad and uncle record demos for their rock band. But his influences expanded fast and wide:
West Coast rap, Bay Area legends, Chicano Rap (like JayTee from Cali Lifestyle), 2000s R&B, and even video game soundtracks that shaped his imagination. Oldies like Zapp and The Gap Band taught him groove… and he blended all of those styles into something uniquely Ogden.

The path wasn’t easy.
As Geno puts it, “Ogden is full of no support and hate — no one takes artists or producers seriously.”
Growing up around gangs and negativity, music became the thing that kept him focused on something bigger. Giving up was never an option.
“I try to stay locked in no matter how hard it gets.”

And locked in he stayed.

Geno 100% produces his own beats — plays every note, chops every sample, programs every drum pattern. He has recorded and worked with nearly every Utah artist at some point. His catalog isn’t just big — it’s foundational.

Projects like:
🔥 Still Buzzin’ in the Beehive — a compilation built around that real Ogden sound
🔥 801 Baby — fully produced, mixed & mastered by Geno for Zayy Babyy

His work with California and out-of-state artists has helped put Ogden on the map, proving our sound belongs in the national conversation.

And the momentum continues — with more singles dropping and his first official beat tape on the way.

From consistency to versatility to pure musicianship, Geno Beats has engraved his name into Utah rap history. He brings value, unity, and authenticity to a scene that needed someone to set the tone.

He’s not just part of the culture…
He’s one of the creators of it.
A true 801 legend.
