Inflation just hit 3.7%, and gas prices did most of the damage. ⛽

Here’s the September CPI picture:
📈 Inflation rose from 3.4% in August to 3.7%
⛽ Gas prices jumped 9.1% in a single month
🔍 Core inflation (excluding food and energy) sits at 2.6%
📊 More than half of CPI categories are running above 3%

So should it change how you invest?

The bigger concern isn’t one month’s number. It’s the trend. Stocks aren’t directly tied to inflation or interest rates, but a sustained inflation trend could raise the risk of a recession, and recessions are what tend to weigh on markets.

In the meantime, money you expect to need within the next 10 years may belong in more conservative investments, which could even benefit from today’s higher rates.

The Fed just raised rates for the first time since 2023.
So who pays, and who gets paid?
💳 Carrying a credit card balance or a HELOC? Those rates tend to move up almost right away.
🏠 Fixed-rate mortgage? Nothing changes. Your payment stays put.
💰 Savers and retirees could benefit. Yields on savings accounts, CDs, and money market funds tend to rise when the Fed hikes.
📊 Investments? LPL Research found that in 5 of the last 6 hiking cycles, stocks pulled back the first month, then were positive a year later.
This isn't 2022. Inflation was over 9% then. It's around 3.5% now.
Don't panic. Plan.
