Well that was lovely wasn’t it? A huge thanks to all who contributed records - we were treated to some truly beautiful selections. Who would have thought that an evening of tracks to unwind would be the first to get people on their feet. Cheers to @shai.space for letting us do our thing. Definitely one to check out if you haven’t already. Expect an announcement on some more summer dates in Manchester very soon :) by @geo.oakes
Ever wanted to hear maggot brain with a twinkle of vinyl crackle on a mega system in a pub in Stockport? Probably not, but that’s exactly what happened at our last outing to the @red_bull_hillgate. Thank you to everyone who joined, came to listen and shared music with us. Also to those who curiously wondered over with a pint from the bar, we appreciate you all the same đŸ«¶đŸŒ Full tracklist up in stories. DM us if you’d like a playlist link. A huge shout out to Emma and Adam for their lovely hospitality and bearing with us as we rearranged the benches for the sixth time, only to return them to where they started. We’ve already got a return visit in the works. Come join us @shai.space tonight if you’re around London for vol. 6!!! Cosy vibes guaranteedđŸ’†â€â™‚ïž BYOB ✅ Remaining tickets in bio đŸŽ« by @geo.oakes
One more before summer? On June 18th, we’ll be heading down to London for the first time, landing @shai.space for our next edition of The Listening Room (a book club for music enthusiastsℱ). We’ve been big fans of what they’ve built over in Peckham with the @big_____ears system, so we’re pretty excited about the opportunity to take it on. The theme for the evening is UNWIND. A song for Sunday evenings, for sinking into sofas, for ending the night or easing you into the next? We hold an anything-goes policy, so interpret this theme however you like. If it’s a record that’s important to you, then it’s important to us. It’s a BYOB affair, so come with your preferred beverage for an evening of eclectic selections. Early birds up for a fiver + bf, go grab them while you can (link in bio). Bring a record, bring some drinks, and bring a friend to enjoy them both with. by @geo.oakes
And so, The Listening Room returns! This time, we’re taking the short trip over to Stockport, where we’ll be trading the rugs for the carpeted floors and charming atmosphere of one of the finest public houses in the SK postcode — @red_bull_hillgate. If you’ve been to any one of our previous sessions at our fabled home in Stretford, expect a lot more of the same, only this time with your choice of pint on draft and the potential to sneak a bag of scampi fries in between records. The theme for the evening is COVER STORIES. Whether you want to share a record whose sleeve keeps you drawing back to it, or perhaps have been waiting for the opportunity to recite the tale of how an iconic cover image came to be, bring them along on Thursday, June 4th. As always, we’re hoping this will encourage a uniquely broad range of listening, so come prepared for left turns and unexpected pairings. Entry is free, with a limited number of tickets available in our bio. We hope to see you there :) by @geo.oakes
The Listening Room Vol. 4 Here’s a look back on our parting farewell to @rainyheartmcr last month. Thankfully steering clear of an evening filled with funeral tracks, we asked everyone to bring their swan songs to see off the space, taking us from New Order to Johnny Cash, Idris Muhammad to Addison Rae. We’ve put some thoughts on this remarkable venue and what it’s meant to so many more than just us up on substack. As usual, that’s also where you’ll find the collated playlist for the evening and some miscellaneous footage from our 6 months over at Stretford Mall. We’ll be taking The Listening Room to some new spaces over the coming months, so look out for that :) 📬homingpigeonmag.substack.com by @geo.oakes
It’s been a busy week ahead of our fourth and final soirĂ©e @rainyheartmcr this Thursday. The evening promises to be a fitting celebration for a space that has meant so much to so many (if you too think the idea of lounging on a sofa listening to eclectic records counts as such). So, come with your swan song as we wave RH goodbye together. Funeral tracks allowed if they’re the get-up-and-dance kind. More importantly
.we promised gifts, and it is gifts we come to share news of. Everyone attending will be able to take home their choice of the four Listening Room posters at the end of the evening. And while we could have stopped there, we (George) decided to go one step further, designing and screen-printing our very own commemorative vinyl sleeves to house the record you decide to play. Finishing touches are still underway, but swipe across to see the process in action. Remaining tickets can be found in our bio. If you’re still unconvinced, then I don’t know what to tell you. by @geo.oakes
Join us for the final send-off on Thu 19th, where we’ll say our goodbyes to Rainy Heart (for now) as they migrate from their current home at Stretford Mall. To mark the occasion, we’re offering something special to everyone who plays a record, along with a choice of listening room posters to everyone in attendance. Nobody leaves empty-handed. We’ll share more details on this soon, so keep an eye out. In tribute to RH, the theme for the evening is SWAN SONG. Bring your choice of record to say farewell to the space, anything you feel is a fitting celebration to be played on the @turnend_audio system one last time. We reached capacity at last month’s session and expect a similar outcome this time around. Ticket link in bio. Doors will be at 7 pm, with listening starting from 7:30 pm. Very excited for this one :) by @geo.oakes
The Listening Room Vol. 3 About a week and a half has passed since we returned to @rainyheartmcr for what was the penultimate session in our Stretfordian home away from home. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who joined us, played a record, shared a story, and created such a special atmosphere. If you’d like to revisit anything that was played, we’ve put all the tracks into a YouTube playlist that can be found on our substack. For those wanting to relive THAT Terry Hunter moment, that’s also where you’ll want to head. Forever grateful to those who make this possible — @turnend_audio @stretfordtowncentre + the RH team :) by @geo.oakes
After a brief hiatus, we return to @rainyheartmcr on Thursday 19th Feb for vol. 3 of The Listening Room. This time we’re asking the question, “What’s a record you’ve been recently obsessed with?” Whether it’s a new discovery or something that has resurfaced from years past, we want to know what keeps you reaching for it. Doors are at 7pm, with listening starting at half past. Come down early, get comfy and make the most of the beautiful RH space while we still can. Free entry but space is limited.
