George and the art residency manager went on a week’s trip to Java to research about art education, programs, and catch the Olafur Eliasson’s show at Museum Macan in Jakarta.

Highlights of the trip were mostly the people —Theo, Nayla, the Intergrated Arts UNPAR family, Yudho, Azizi, Luqi, Naili, Mas Tanto, Fathan, Dwaji, Renitta, Dengarupa Collective, Budi Adi Nugroho, Shanny, and of course, our biggest supporter and onigiri mama, Kadek and family with their newest baby Jura.

Thank you Mabiang Seni owner and investor for hosting us in Jakarta, and thank you for Prabowo from @maisonsecrete for the stay in Bandung. Hope to see you all again!

"Amber Mind"

In this work, I draw upon the composition of Rubens’ The Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus, reinterpreting it through oil pastel on canvas. The central figures are set against a red, resin-like form reminiscent of amber, evoking ideas of preservation, collective memory, and inherited human patterns.
Two spirit-like forms, resembling birds, suggest life unfolding across different dimensions. The black-and-white chessboard motif introduces the theme of duality and perception, symbolizing how subjective experience shapes reality.
The painting reflects on the tension between the individual and the surrounding world—how inner expectations and emotional states transform a neutral space into a stage of conflict and projection. The white background serves as a field of clarity and focus, directing attention to the psychological dialogue within the composition.

Like a butterfly, every process begins, transforms,
and at some point asks for rebirth.

For a whole year, I’ve been creating in this studio.
Every mark on these walls carries a memory —
a work, a doubt, a discovery, a moment of presence.

Today, I repaint the walls.
Not to erase the past,
but to thank it — and to make space for what’s next.

A cycle is complete.
And a new one is about to begin.

и в какой-то момент требует перерождения.

Целый год я творил в этой студии.
Каждый след на этих стенах — это память:
работа, сомнение, открытие, момент присутствия.

Сегодня я перекрашиваю стены.
Не чтобы стереть прошлое,
а чтобы поблагодарить его —
и освободить пространство для нового.

Один цикл завершён.
И новый вот-вот начнётся.

• Detachable Mural for Jia CURATED 2025

Even thought it was such in a last minute attempt, we reached out to Propan — @propanraya to sponsor a collaboration between a local artist and an international artist whom both are a part of the Mabiang Seni community.

The result: an urban-clothed Rangda from Balinese Hinduism intergrated with a rendition of The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo for the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling. The yellow chains became a halo of unity for the chaos and the well-known symbol of grace in Catholicisim.

Provided with many different options of colors, the collaboration was able to be enriched during the process itself. The artists appreciate the smoothness of the paint on primed canvas. This chance of using Propan’s products have opened doors to more possibilities for atists out there who needed a particular consistency of paint in large amounts.

Thank you again to Propan and everyone who were involved in the creation and display of this detachable mural.
