The best piece with the best people. An all-time highlight to be able to perform this masterpiece exactly 50 years after the premiere performance. Thanks to an unbelievable crew of musicians and everyone at enSRQ who made this possible. You can relive the full performance from April 24, 2026 here: https://youtu.be/glfgUNdyr4k #reich #minimalism #musicfor18 #ensemblenewSRQ #newmusic #percussion #marimba #piano #sarasota by @georgenicksondrums
Above average sunrise here at the little Grand Canyon in Castle Dale, Utah to celebrate the end of a really intense concert season. 10/10 camping spot. 35 miles of unpaved road was a slog but Viv the Riv handled it with ease. by @georgenicksondrums
George Nickson explains why twelve ordinary notes have given us centuries of extraordinary music. Turns out the ingredients were never the interesting part. J.S. Bach. Steve Reich. Christopher Cerrone. The same twelve notes. Walk into any serious kitchen and you'll find many of the same ingredients. Salt. Butter. Flour. Fire. No one remembers the recipe because of the pantry. They remember what the chef did with it. Music works the same way. Every Western composer begins with the same twelve notes. The ingredients stay the same—it's the alchemy, the preparation, and the imagination that transform them. #newmusic #music #ensrq #foodforfoodies by @georgenicksondrums
5... 4... 3... 2... 1... Every great performance begins somewhere. We're kicking off the summer by looking back at one of the defining moments of our 10th season—Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians at the Sarasota Opera House. Over the next few months, we'll be sharing performance highlights, rehearsals, interviews, behind-the-scenes stories, and a look at the people and ideas that make ensembleNewSRQ what it is. Whether you've been with us for ten seasons or you're discovering us for the first time... Welcome to the groove. 🎥 More to come. #ensrq #ensrq10 #newmusic #newmusicvideo #stevereich by @georgenicksondrums
